We just returned from 6 nights at the Poly it was fabulous

We flew SW. Great airline, no issues at all.

We got to check in on the ME which took about 10 minutes going through the line. Waited for about 20 minutes to get on the bus... I don't think we will be taking the ME again.

Got to the Poly checked right in. Our room wasnt ready for about an hour so we headed to Capt. Cooks for lunch and once we figured out the touch screen and what went with the DP we were golden. Called and our room was ready at 12:20. Tokelau 1st floor quiet pool side, everything we wanted!!!

Room was great!! nice and big. We stepped off our patio and there was Cinderella Castle.

No issues at all with Mousekeeping. All our requests were handled ASAP. Even an unrequested turn down :). The Volcano pool was crowded!!!!! The quiet pool was much better!!

The parks weren't crowded at all. Soarin was the longest wait though 30 minutes on the sign was actually 1 hour but we did the baby swap and we got right on:) Hubby got to wait in line :)

The buses... I will never ever ever ever not rent a car again. I kicked around the idea for a long time and finally flipped a coin and didn't rent the car. WORST MISTAKE EVER. Crowded buses, bad A/C. Sleeping babies and folding and unfolding strollers and all our stuff... bad combo. We took a taxi to AK and it was the best money ever spent!!!!

The restaurants... well they took up A LOT of time. Most sit down meals were a good 2-3 hours. Granted there were 10 of us but that is a lot of time spent eating. And boy was there a lot of food!!!! No complaints about the restaurants though, all food was fabulous (we ate at Kona (yum!!), Crystal Palace, GF Cafe, CG, LeCellier, 50's PT, Akershus)

And finally yesterday the love bugs appeared... a few in MK but the whole rest of the time we didn't see any. The came to see us off.

I will go back to the Poly in a heartbeat but I will leave my older children at home since they were complete terrors like I have never seen before but I will bring the infant since he was fabulous:lmao: the Poly gets an A+++++ in my book!

Sounds great! I also requested Tokelau. glad you had a wonderful Poly stay. I agree Kona Cafe is excellent.

Thanks for the review. Glad you had a great trip. Which meal did you have at Kona and what did you eat?

Isn't Kona great! Glad you enjoyed the Polynesian.

Sounds terrific!

And I agree, I would totally downgrade my hotel room rather than not rent a car again!

Curious how the taxi was with kids - did the taxi have car seats? How far ahead did you order the taxi? I've read that there are taxi vans that can be supplied w/car seats but that they need ample time prior to pick up.

Aloha KPtoys,
Great report, glad you had a good time at the Polynesian. We too love Kona but we have come to love 'Ohanas just as well. Whats up with the busses? From what I read, it is not just the Poly but all over WDW. Our main problem has not been the busses from the Poly, but to the Poly. Trying to get from MGM or DTD to the Poly is a nightmare. I have never considered renting a car because the last thing I need is to have a wreck, get lost, or be in an unDisney mood (roadrage) while I'm on vacation - but now I'm willing to talk about it...

Good report! However, I've never had a problem with even the buses at the Poly. But I can see where bus transportation would be a letdown there, considering you can ride a monorail to 2 parks, and a boat to one. But we usually have a car with us, and often drive to AK or the waterparks anyway.

My worst bus transportation has been at BC, where it seemed like guests at every single other EPCOT area resort was let off before they let us off on the way back from parks.

We just returned from the Poly (Aug.24) also, and your post hit home with your comment about leaving the older children at home. At first I didn't check their ages, and I guessed (incorrectly) that they must be teenagers (based on our experiences.) We told our DS (15), who is a Disney fanatic, while we were there, that this would be his last trip with us to Disney. Next trip, he was staying home and DW, DD, and myself would go. He was just a turd, to put it nicely !! Backtalk, attitude( told his 10yo sister that this trip "s.cked! ), fresh mouth, etc. Normally, he is a pretty good kid, (gets good grades) except that he engages his mouth before his brain all too often. Well, come to find out, he's got mono ! He spent 3 weeks prior to the trip at overnite camp, hiking and biking thru Maine and Vermont, then we spent a week camping in Maine, then we went to Disney !! He was sick the 3rd or 4th day at Disney, then he seemed to bounce back. And he was such a sh.t, it was hard too feel bad for him at the time. So we come home, get a blood test, and presto !! Mono! Now granted, having mono doesn't justify the behavior we received from him, but it probably contributed to it. Bottom line, he's on attitude probation, and will be till our next trip to the world ! Loooong time, probably 2 years !! Have fun !! :thumbsup2

I am curious about the rooms. We did go to poly once, but I am a little fuzzy on room size placement. We have 3 kids, so we are thinking (if we switch to Poly) that we want Tokelau. right? Do we specify MK view and is this fairly close to the monorail?

Happy you had a great time! Kona was one of the best meals we had during our last trip.

we have requested Tok. or Tahiti. Our kids are 8,6,5 and our parents are staying hopefully next door.

My parents think we should request Samoa because of the big pool....

I think being by the quiet pool would be great [we were by 50's quiet pool at POP and loved it because it wasn't as loud].

I guess I just want reassurance....and I know it's just a request but did you request 1st floor and by the pool?

Oh and were there issues with ducks?

Thanks again!

We had dinner at Kona. I had the filet. Soooo yummy!!

We had connecting rooms in Tokelau 1904 and 1903 which was great with the other family we were traveling with. I didnt think the volcano pool was loud just very full of people. The quiet pool was just that, quiet.

The ducks would walk right up to the doors. I swear if I left the doors open they would have come inside with us!

Tokelau - We were on the pool side and it was about 3-5 minutes to the GCH and about 2-3 minutes to the bus stop. Walking to TTC was a bit longer than I expected but not all that long at all.

Our taxi had car seats in the back of the taxi ?(it was a van) We just walked up to the Valet and they got us a taxi. It was SO much better than loading and unloading kids and all our stuff!!

Thanks for your great report on the Poly. We had our first trip to the world in May with our dd and gdd. We stayed at CR. I was interested in staying at the Poly our next trip (we don't have a date planned yet). I loved the CR but would like to try other hotels. Your report helped me make up my mind for our next trip.

Roughly how much is a taxi from the airport to a WDW resort?

How long does it take?

If you don't have kids and aren't in a rush, are the buses still a pain? I don't want to be standing around waiting for hours but I don't have to get to the hotel ASAP either.

Thanks!

We never took the taxi from the airport just from the Poly to AK and it was about $17 one way.

If you aren't in a rush... one time we were right on a bus going to MGM. Another time it took us about 15 minutes for a bus to MGM again (went back for dinner). Leaving MGM however was a 45 minute wait for a bus... no bus stopped at the Poly stop. All others were getting buses but it took forever for a Poly bust to come. Yes, it was peak leaving time but it was ridiculous!!!

When you say wine country, do you mean LI North Fork. If so, what wineries do you recommend visiting on a weekend for tastings?
