Got a quote from a travel agency for four nights at the Poly, standard room, early January, and it came to $1665.00. Wow! No thanks. May just consider Orbitz/Travelocity route again, rent points for the AKL or just two regular rooms at the AKL. Wasn't excepting the quote to be that high.

Will still stay there some day, but with a price that high, will just wait out all the construction!

Rack rates are always high early January, especially before 2016 packages drop. Expect to drop from 20-30% off of that rate with specials and you'll end up around 1250 for the 4 nights or around 315 a night which is about par for the Poly.

Well, that was an agency exclusive price. Thats why I was kinda surprised. I will add that this was a quote for 3 adults in the room, forgot to mention that, but still I was shooting for no more than 1400.00, tops!

Poly is always over $300 per night with the deepest discounts off season. It's not worth it to me given the other choices. You have the right idea going with AKL and EPCOT resorts when going Deluxe. WL is similar price to AKL if you want to be in that area.

I think those numbers are wrong, that were quoted me. Unless the rates have skyrocketed

Just an FYI - January has several different rates, you didn't say the exact dates in January, you just mentioned early January, so maybe your dates fell into one of the highest prices rates.

We usually go in January so I was researching the rates to find the lowest possible rate for the Grand Floridian, since I have always wanted to stay there at least once. I found this information on Mousesavers. This is information from January 2015:

Jan 1 - Jan 3 = New Years Rate
Jan 4 - Jan 7 = Value Rate
Jan 8 - Jan 10 = Marathon Rate
Jan 11 - Jan 15 = Value Rate
Jan 16 - Jan 18 - MLK Rate
Jan 19 - Feb 11 = Value Rate

Bingo. You may be right. The dates I gave them run into a Marathon rate, but the dates I want will actually fall into value rate. There's hope!!!!

No more 189 per night like it was last August?

Just a comment--the Poly's rates are SO much higher this year and every year have been rising dramatically. In 2010, our 9 day vacation in November was 3,300 after 30% off Pin. In 2011, it was 4,400. In 2013, it was 5,100. This year, it is 7,300 without discounts (no thank you) for the same time period, week and tickets. I have a Pin code for 30% off that same period in November, but no rooms are available at a discount. Conversion to DVC means the Poly is going to be stratospherically expensive, I think, from now on. We are booked at AKL this year. Goodbye Poly for us, I guess.

May just have to wait until we can go during a "Labor Day time frame".

Last time I saw $189/night poly was 15 years ago. I always check the off seasons and it's always well over $300 - I check 100 times throughout the year. If you have any suggestions on when to book for the $200 night rooms even let me know! ;-) The only real steal I've gotten at Disney was 4-23-2010 with a $300 1BR BLT, aka my engagement weekend! Funny how my memory of that weekend starts with 1BR for $300 and OH we got engaged!

There is a travel agent that cannot be named on this board. They run a special around Labor Day for highly discounted rooms at the Poly and some other resorts as well. I booked the WL through them for $169 a for September 4-7. Poly was $199 a night. I also booked Coronado Springs through them for our October 14-18 for $119 a night. I'm on the fence with that one because I'm not a huge value/moderate fan, but the price is fantastic. Rates for Annual Passholders have not come out for those dates yet. May switch to AKL if the price is right.

Yay, that is what I mean by going around Labor Day, but you never know.

Last August including tax the price was $212 + change. Is the room tax about 12 or 13% making the base rate about $189? Is that what you paid last year for the Poly?

Have you heard about the travel agent that is frequently alluded to here but never by actual name? From what I have learned here they have the best deals.

That's the room rate rate before taxes. It's around 12.5% for tax. According to my quote Poly with tax is $223.88 and WL is $190.13.

Why would you not name the agent? They don't want business? They would certainly get 3 bookings a year from me at those prices. Highly confused here.

There is a sticky thread posted at the top of the Discounts Codes & Rates board that gives an explanation.
