I'll make the story short. I needed a new scanner. Hubby found one on compUSA site but when he printed it the price was cut off the side of the print. That's the one! I'll go through the my points site and get the points for it. Did so. $249. plus tax and shipping. Bought it. Hubby walks in and sees the print out of my purchase. Says whats that?! It was only $199! I log in - not through my points and sure enough $199. I log back in through my points $249.

Pay 50$ premium for 500 points? I DON'T THINK SO!!!! I called immediately to cancel the sale, of course, and then canceled my points.

Nothing like that has happened to me on MyPoints, but I sure understand the irritation with these places. I use Opinion Place through AOL, every two weeks you can try do a survey although not every time you try you get one. I did one big one for 5 bucks, two weeks later I did a 3 dollar survey. I got the 3 bucks but after three weeks I hadn't recieved my 5. Opinion Place told me AOL returned the credit to them, and AOL would need to credit me. AOL tells me first that there is nothing saying I ever did it, then after wasting more time they admit that I had run into some limit which I've never heard of before.... suposedly I ran into the limit.... but two weeks later they gave me a 3 dollar credit. Mind that I've only done those two surveys all year! I asked why they let me waste forty minutes on that survey claiming I'd get paid if I had hit the yearly limit, and they told me "it lets you do that".... oh, thanks, so you cut people off but don't tell them. It's like that poor guy in the movie Office Space, he's been fired, but nobody bothers to tell him. They just cut off his check and let him keep working for free.
I can not wait to have the money to go broadband and escape AOL!

I've had that happen with rewards sites before.

You have to check out the site first.

I got an email about a sale at an online discount store. You could get 10% off and $1.95 shipping. On one reward site they offered $10 if you are a new customer making any purchase. However, if you go through the link it's full price and shipping is $9.

Same for an online book store. I wanted a character calendar and another book. If I go on the site directly the calendar was $8.95. If I go through the reward site link the price jumps to $11.95.

Most of the time it's okay, but you just have to check before you buy.

I don't blame you! I would cancel too!

I will never shop through them again. Also the customer service people just make up excuses and pass the buck to the next person.

You did the right thing. I'll be curious if they ask why.

What I usually do with My Points is shop where I want to shop, add the things I want to my cart, but don't finish the purchase. I then log into My Points, click the link to the store I was shopping in, and complete the purchase. Knock on wood, it's worked every time (I mostly shop Buy.com and office depot)

I don't shop a ton through My Points, but when I do, I do it just like this...and it has worked every time.

Wow. I wasn't aware of this, and hadn't noticed if there have been any price differences for my MyPoints purchases (I don't purchase often). Thanks to all for the heads up and shopping tip!

Exactly what I do as well. I know most stores have the price guarantee and will adjust--we did this with Circuit city. I still got my points (adjusted for the price of course).

I have accts with mypoints, freeride, erewards, laurenlightspeed and several others. DH and I each have accts with mypoints and freeride. If we make purchases we use my acct. But...DH ONLY clicks on emails to get the points. He never does surveys or buys anything thru either of them and yet he has still managed to get enough points to cash out. You don't have to buy things to keep an acct, just clicking on emails will eventually pay a return for your time.

Always have trouble with mypoints...whenever I order through their site, I always have to keep track of it. I have never got these points without having to send a couple emails after the 30 days of course...working on one right now as a matter of fact.
I'll have to keep your info in mind as well and always check the site with and without mypoints. Thanks for the heads up :thumbsup2

I haven't used Mypoints in a long time. Now, I'm going to check first like the others say.

I haven't gotten an e-mail from mypoints for a month. They say my accounts fine and that it's yahoo. Nothing from them is going into the bulk mail folder and I have mypoints added to my address book. My dh's account is fine.

I give up.

vanyel~We have the opposite problem at our house. My account is fine, but Dh is not getting any emails. He has a hotmail address though :confused3 .
