Just thought I would pass along my plan to see if anyone else had thought of trying this....

I have an ebates account, if you buy off of disney.com thru ebates it gives you 5% cash back. I plan on going and buying gift cards thru there, while using my Disney Visa to earn points. With those gift cards I am going to pay off my vacation.

So....5% cash back on a $4000 balance. And....$4000 in Visa points.
Technically not saving off the vacation, but making money while paying it I guess.

What a great idea that would be if we could. I always use ebates and love it. I searched the site to see if they give cash back on gc,s and found that they only do on select stores and unfortunately disney isn't one of them. I found this info under the frequently asked tab and they have the list of stores that allow cash back on gc's if you hit the gift certificate tab on the main page by the list of store types.

A supermarket by us offers a gas discount for how much you spend. We just bought a TV and bought gc's at the supermarket for Sears(where we bought the TV) and also received cash back from ebates on it. That was a great deal..

I specifically asked them if gift cards were excluded and they said that any site not on the list for gift cards is excluded. Oh well.

It anyone has a GIANT EAGLE grocery store buy the disney cards there are double fuel perks! For every 50..0 gc you buy for disney you earn 20 cents off 30 gallons of gas. I saved about 450.00 in free gas last year buying stacks of these cards to pay my trip off. I think if you do the math it is liking saving 13% on your vacation bill. It is a STEAL!

I have ordered gift cards through ebates via the Disney store site and did get my cash back.

Now, this was in 2009 so maybe things have changed, but I was able to order $200 in gift cards, got 3% cash back on them, and got my Disney Visa reward points.

Years ago I did this through SR and it was OK to do and it was a great deal, but Disney ended giving cash back on GC when they realized that people were doing this. SR doesn't do it anymore, but I have heard of people getting it on ebates in small amts. Like if you bought a $50 card you might get it, if you bought $4000 most likely you would not. If that would work, we would all do it, and it would be great. When I did it through SR I did it because it was postested on the budget board, so i'm guessing it was being done a lot. it was at the time though perfectly "legal" Disney was advertising on SR "cash back on GC or merchandise. At the time I believe the Disney Store was owned by TCP not Disney though, so they may have never realized that people would buy GC to fund trips rather than just smaller ones to use in the store.

I am so sick of the Eagle deal when we don't have one. Why can't one of the NJ stores do that, I'd jump on free gas right now...LOL.

One thing I do is use my Discover card where there is 5% back (like right now they have airlines so I'll use Discover to buy my flights this month) then I cash my disscover points for gas cards or another necessity such as a gift for someone, and I take the cash from my budget and deposit it into my Disney fund. Otherwise I use the DisneyVisa where I can go directly to Disney cards. I'll tell you though if Discover had Disney GC as a cashout option, that would be perfect!

Drats. So my diabolical plan won't work. But if it did, it would have been great :thumbsup2

Thank you tho for the heads up tho, and I actually went and read the ebates faqs.

I guess I shouldn't be greedy, I did get to use the 35% off the room discount by switching our travel dates fromt he first week of october to the last week of September.

Thanks for posting about that site though, I had not been aware of it.

My husband buys all his suits, other work and some casual clothes from Jos A Banks and you can do gift cards with them (he likes to shop in the store) and the rebate is like 6.5%! That savings can still go toward our trip, so again, thanks for the tip! :goodvibes

Just a little update....I hadn't read all the fine print about what stores you can buy gift cards from and get credit on ebates before I went and bought a gift card thru ebates and turned around and went back thru ebates and bought what I wanted with that gift card.

I got bummed figuring I lost out on some points....but then today in my email it said I earned $14 on the purchase of the giftcard, AND I also earned $14 on the purchases I made with the gift card. :confused3 I wont complain, I will just roll with it.
