My Plan THOUGHTS PLEASE!!!

Ok, we are staying 9 nights, and using ME. We are planning on going off site a day or two, so I wanted a rental car for about 3 nights in the middle. I was planning on using the cheapest which I believe is thrifty for about $15 a day. I was thinking DH could take ME to the airport then pick up the car there, then do the same thing to return it. Would that work? Any reason not to use Thrifty? TIA

I am not sure, but I doubt they will allow you to use ME this way.

Also probably not worth the extra time involved and the extra taxes that are charged at airport car rentals.

I would just get a code and get the best deal I could with Alamo or National. With them on sight, you cannot beat the convience.

YOu may also want to check other car rentals, and further check their sites to see where else they may have rentals. Enterprise sometimes has good rates and sometimes will deliver the car to you (never done this in FLA but have other places) I think that a couple of the DTD hotels have satellite offices in them - maybe the Hilton has Hertz? You may find you can get a pretty good deal and not use the ME option or pay the airport taxes.
Also, you may do better if you can structure your rental to be a Thursday - Monday - Sometimes there's weekend specials
