My DH worked for a guy once who said that he also goes onto Twitter & Facebook to look up every job applicant who they're going to interview...and if they have a bunch of public stuff on their profile, they opt NOT to interview the person.

So in addition to deleting your CV here on this thread, you should also consider kind of locking down your social media accounts. For example, on Facebook, you can view your page from a Public view in order to see what a non-friend would be able to see.

I have absolutely no active social media except for LinkedIn. I don't think it's worth it. Anything that isn't on LinkedIn (not Facebook, Myspace, etc.) is totally noncontroversial.

iF (big if here) any of this is real, I imagine your addiction had probably impacted your schooling in the way it tends to impact everything in life until you get better. I hope you’re not actively an addict and in law enforcement, but many of the LEA folks I work with are struggling with addiction.

You really really should consider taking down your resume/CV. You know why? Because you've posted on these boards about a lot of your personal problems...big personal issues that ANY employer will now be able to look up with a quick Google search on your name and see. They'll find it because you put your real name on here...and then they'll look up all of the posts on DIS Boards posted by your user name. Then they'll see you posting about how your wife left you, about your PTSD issues, about your addiction issues, and how you talked about relapsing a few times. And like it or not, but those things WILL put you out of the running for a lot of jobs that you might be looking for.

THAT is why you shouldn't disclose those personal issues to potential employers.

Putting your resume on here is REALLY DUMB. Of course, you are not a dumb person. But choosing to do that IS a dumb decision.

I found the Graduate Dismissal Form from USF- they require the reason(s) for dismissals to be sent to the student. I’ve never heard of a legitimate school that would dismiss anyone without a reason. (I have a PhD and am tied into the academic world.)

It’s pretty imperative that you find out the reason for dismissal if you plan on going back into academia at any point. If you give no reason, they’ll assume the worst.

Common dismissal reasons are missing grade/exam benchmarks and academic dishonesty (ex plagiarism). I’ve seen a few severe HR violations (like getting involved with an undergraduate student as a TA...). I’ve also seen lack of funding push grad students out, though that’s not really a dismissal on its own.
