My parents have to cancel

We have 2 adjoining rooms booked and paid for (sailing in Sept) Unfortunately my parent have to cancel. We have trip insurance but am wondering if DCL will let me, my husband and 2 boys use both rooms - 1 adult and 1 kid in each room. If I rebooked online right now - its only $400 more that what we are currently paying for just our 1 room. Thoughts?

Who's currently listed in each room? And when is the cruise?

The cruise is Sept 26 - one room is myself, husband and 2 boys. My parents have the adjoining room but it is all one reservation.

Each room is it's own reservation. Your reservations may be linked, but they are separate.

Since your parents are in one room, you can't just cancel them and move someone else there. Their room would be a cancellation. And since you are within the penalty period - there will be some losses. Are you accounting for that in your $400 difference? What cruise departs Sep 26? I can't find one to help you figure out how much you'll forfeit by cancelling one room.

You could move your husband and one child to your parents room, and have your parents be no-shows (you'll get the port fees and taxes back, but forfeit their fares. If they are no-shows, you can't collect insurance on that. Typically, you have to actually cancel and take the losses to collect from insurance.

Also, you & one child in your room are now paying 2 full fares.

sorry - its the 25 - 4 nights Halloween on the high seas from cape Canaveral

also - they are canceling due to recently diagnosed medical condition that will require treatment for the next 6 weeks.

OK, if you cancel their room by 45 days out, you'll forfeit the deposit amount for them. You may be able to rebook that room with your husband & one child, but they would pay the prevailing rate and each of them will be paying full fare.

If you move your husband & 1 child into their room, and have them (your parents) be no shows, you'll forfeit their whole fare. And you and the other child will be paying full fare for your room.

Another caution, it's possible, if you opt to try moving your husband & child (keeping your parents on the booking), it's possible that room's lifeboat may be at capacity and you won't be able to move them at all. There's a slight possibility of that.

Also, you say "adjoining", mean "connecting"? As in an interior door between the two rooms? Adjoining means next door (or across the hall) from each other, but with no interior door.

yes - connecting with an interior door - I guess we will just have to figure it out. I am so disappointed that they can not come! What would moving my husband and child onto their booking do for us? Not sure I understand....thanks for you help

Well, moving them would keep that room "in the family". Although, for the most part, DCL rooms are larger than similar category rooms on other lines, so you're not really cramped in just one room.

Two rooms = 2 TVs, 2 bathrooms, and more space.

While you may have been expecting to have some family members sleep in your parents' room, are any of your family members on their reservation or are DH and the kids on your one room reservation? If so, your parents can cancel their room and you keep the one room you have.

What PrincessShmoo is suggesting will keep that second room for the 4 of you. You can put the kids in there (even though an adult has to be on the reservation), but you will essentially be paying full fare for all of you, which is maybe not what you wanted to do. If that's what you want and you can afford it, I think the advice is not to use the word 'cancellation' in rejigging guests around. Not sure. Others can give you more advice.

However, if you're happy with one room for the 4 of you and that's the way your current reservation is right now, then only your parents need cancel. If you have a child or two listed on your parents' reservation, then you will need to get them moved to your room before your parents cancel.

Unless they have trip insurance, the reason they are cancelling is irrelevant. The only way to not forfeit money is to go through trip insurance for reimbursement. But you can't get it now and immediately claim medical (just like you can't buy insurance after a storm has a name and use it to cancel).

The OP said they had trip insurance in her original post.

Yes - we have insurance - I guess I need to see how much it would cost to cancel - claim that on my insurance and then see how much it would be to change our existing reservation and rebook the room.

Ok - have canceled my parents room.

So now we can keep our room 9108 - or move to 9532 and 9534 for about $800 more.

Any thoughts based on location etc...

We were in 9112 and 9114 and it was fine. Very nice. But 9532 and 34 are starboard, which a lot of people prefer and those rooms are right across from the forward elevators. They're probably pretty nice. Just so you know, the laundry is across from 9500, so far enough away that it shouldn't bother you, but close enough to be convenient.

According to: https://www.disboards.com/threads/d...pdated-list-of-rooms-needed-1st-post.3194826/

9108 sleeps 4, but doesn't have the murphy bed. It'll have a chair instead. 9532 and 34 both also sleep 4. If it were me, I'd spread out, because we like our space.

I'm not sure if I missed it somewhere above, but what category room do you have booked and which are you looking at? 4A? If this is the famiy deluxe oceanview room with verandah, it will be plenty big for your your family of 4. I wouldn't book two rooms for a 4-nt unless your sons are older maybe? If they are younger I would stick with one room (if it is indeed a 4A).

To the OP, we are on the same cruise as you. It is me, DH, DD and DSIL and our 4 DGDs. We have connecting rooms, 9536 and 9538, so we will be your neighbors if you decide to move. :) I also prefer starboard side since that seems to be the side that is usually facing the port. At least it has been for us in the past. We were right next to the elevators and stairs in a Neptune Suite on our last cruise on HAL in May to Alaska, and it was never a problem with noise, and I don't think it will be with DCL either. We have cruised before on Carnival, RCCL, and HAL, but this is our first DCL cruise, so we are very excited to be cruising on the Dream! I have been doing extensive research on this site too since we are new to DCL.

I am sorry to hear about your parents medical issue and having to cancel, but I do hope all goes well with their treatment.

Good luck with whatever you decide and maybe we will see you onboard the ship!
