My Own Special Cleaning

THat thing has too many little nooks and crannies for my comfort. I am no germophobe, but I think the remorse is the dirtiest thing in the room, and the hardest to clean.
Oooh, okay! Just wondering, thanks for clarifying. :)

I have no idea it it makes a difference, but it only takes a second and makes me feel better. We don't do too much otherwise, just spray the toilet handle, wipe a few things. I figure soap and water will take care of the rest as long as we are not licking fingers.

I will say that my friend was pretty grossed out last December after teh Beast bent over for a kiss on the cheek. SHe hauled my sorry self to the bathroom and told me to wash my face....no telling how many little kids with runny noses had hugged the big guy! LOL!!!

Let's just say the room is cleaner when I leave than when I got there - not just at Disney - every hotel. I have my whole family trained. We clean everything - especially the remotes, light switches, door knobs, refrig door handle, etc. We use wipes.

I have no fear of germs and so on, so I rarely clean anything in a hotel room when I check into it

As long as you do not rub the tv remote on your eyes or lick on a door handle I personally think there is nothing to be afraid of.

I once got sick for a day on a Disneyland trip, typical symptoms for a stomach virus. Was it because I did not clean the nightstand in the hotel? I will never know

After three times that my DSIL returned home sick from a WDWD trip we just take a few precautions. I have no idea if he got sick on the plane, in the airport, or the resort, but my DD takes no chances anymore. I figure it only takes a minute and cannot really hurt.

I've never done this, but I've read of others even wiping down the airplane tables, arm rests and the seat backs in front of them. (ie: delta seat video screens) due to people putting their bare feet on them. GROSS! I'm going to be doing this next time for sure!

I do a quick wipe down with wipes. I also do the tray tables on the plane, those things are never cleaned.

We have always used Lysol in the room, starting 36 years ago when married.

A number of years ago, DS24 was staying at ASSp when he volunteered through HS, for GKTW. He wound up getting a nasty norovirus. After that experience, I read that when entering a hotel room, treat it as if the last guest had the flu. I hadn't ever thought that way, just that we preferred to Lysol the toilet and such. Then came the whole 20/20 shows with the black light, bedspreads, light switches, remotes. Following with the glassware not being washed property. With all that being said, now we take Lysol and Clorox wipes, do a few minute clean job and on our merry way. .

We now do this as well. I've never seen others do this but we did this last year for the first time. I also won't use the pillows or blankets on a plane....

I have a masters degree in microbiology and I've never done any of this.....
Your greatest chance of illness is human-to-human contact. If you REALLY want to be safe, don't kiss another human, change a diaper, hold hands or (MOST IMPORTANT) have sex........

All this cleaning sounds excessive to me. I don't do any cleaning, I put my clothes in drawers, and I walk on the carpet barefoot. I like to live on the edge.

It turns out that living a natural life on the land with regular contact with other living beings is healthier than living in a disinfected urban bubble. Study after study indicate that exposure to dirt, animals, and other people result in a stronger immune system and less allergies in children.
No judgment here, I get grossed out by snot just like most of you... But I think if you demonstrate good hand washing and keeping your fingers away from your face to your children, they will be better off for it. Frenzied, uber-cleaning when you finally get to Disney World seems like planting a seed of anxiety in kids that have an ever increasing fear of the world around them.
I agree with EveDallas, live on the edge... throw caution and Lysol to the wind!
Most of all, have fun...you're at DISNEY WORLD!

So true, you can go overboard. Many families though, like mine, are immunocompromised so we have to take a little extra caution. Not crazy, just careful. Lots of hand washing, keeping hands away from face, not running hands along the railings at rides, NO wall of fun in the Pooh queue LOL! And yes, we use wipes to give the room a quick cleaning.

Never thought about that, haha! Oh boy, that costume must be filled with germs from here to kingdom-come.

LOL! I think of that every time I see little kids run up and hug the characters and kiss Mickey's nose etc. Yuck!

I had not either! She was totally grossed out, and to tell the truth I was a little "yuck" too. At home I have a few plush animals in the girl's room and steam the dickens out of them whenever I clean, so why would I not consider the germs on the Beast? But no.....

I usually wipe down the remote, the lightswitch, etc and that's it. we NEVER sit on the bedspreads as I don't like germy linens lol We don't even use them.

Nope. No reason to at all.
No one in my family is immune compromised
Germs aren't going to hurt a single one of us.
We rarely get ill in our house, not even with common colds.

I do have a friend who goes so far as to bring her own sheets when she travels. Boy do we love to give her a hard time when we do our group weekend getaways. She's in there making up their bed when the rest of us have started to get our party on. Whatever floats her boat though. Funny thing, her kids got sick every year

I'm glad I'm not the only one that says "germs are my friend"
