My only complaint about DVC

Go with Gib McCain. Never will you "lose that lov'in feeling".

Totally agree! Gib is our guide, too, and he called us before our trip last month to see if we had any questions. We met him on on our trip and he was very helpful on our AKV add-on (even recommending not to do it that day as they were considering extending the developer points from a 7 month use time to 12 months.) He called us the day they extended the developer points and we added on then.

I'm sorry that you haven't had the best of luck with your guide.

I have never heard from my guide. Never met him, bought SSR sight unseen, and then added on at SSR and VWL. So, total 500 points purchased in one year. No note, no phone call, nothing. And what really irritates me is that he is never available and doesn't return calls for days. I am the one who made contact with him to add on after numerous calls. Why do I need to go through him when I want to add on? What does it matter? He never took me on a tour, so I don't feel I owe him anything. I want to add on now, but just the thought of having to deal with getting him touch with him, and his lazy attitude just turns me off.

Sounds like you need the Gibster.

I guess I am one of the few who have had no problems. My first guide that I had at BWV (in 1999) was great, when he called about 3 months after I purchased he informed me that he would be leaving DVC due to his wife's job transfer and he even sent me a good bye card. I didn't have another guide for about a year and then out of the blue I get an email and a letter in the mail from Lisa, who is still my current guide. I am so happy with her. When I have called her she calls back within 1 business day.

When I had a problem with DVC mail coming in my exhusbands name she took care of correcting the problem for me. I guess I have been lucky. To those of you who are unhappy I would suggest contacting DVC and requesting a new guide and tell them why. If they don't know there are problems how can they be fixed?

My guide is Byron Helgeson. I've had no problems. When I purchased my original contract, he set up the appointment for the tour, but said he wouldn't be available. Another guide (I forget her name) showed me around and did the paperwork. She was very nice, too.

I called Byron to add on at SSR a few weeks ago and had everything done in a matter of minutes.

My guide has been super. She always gets back to me or my DW. She has sent us pins and lanyards in the past just cuase she knew we liked that kind of stuff. She has given us her e-mail, cell number, home phone number, etc in case we ever need a hold of her in an emergency.

Our kids (21 and 16) are going down in a couple weeks and she has even offered to check-in on the kids for us. Now that is personal service!!

Nancy Barbee is our guide and iwould recommend her to anyone!

In reading this thread (and others) about service from one's guide, DH and I are so jealous of some of you, and are developing GUIDE-ENVY! :rolleyes1
Boy, me too!

We weren't thrilled with our guide, so personally, I'd rather not hear from him, and honestly, there's no threat of that...we haven't heard from him since Day 1. We purchased VB in November 2000 from Hassan on a trip to WDW, and I told my DH that when we got home, I could confirm on the DIS that the information we received from Hassan was true...1) no problem having 5 in a studio (we have 3 children) 2) no problem just taking extra towels from the pool area if we need them  3) no problem booking BWV vacations at 7 months. And boy, did I learn a lot when I got home and started posting my questions here! (Thank you Rich, may you RIP!) We ended up cancelling VB and getting a BWV resale 3 months later, with Hassan still listed as our guide. Never heard from him, never will. If we wanted to make any futher DVC transactions, no way would I deal with him...I don't trust him. I'd have to insist on another guide.

Don't hold back, tell us what you really think.:thumbsup2

We just got back from WDW and visited the AKL models at SSR. I hate when you ask the guides there any questions about what's the current point price? or what are the current incentives? You get that stupid response..."you'll have to call you guide for that information". As if my guide has a super special magical mickey deal just for me. When I'm on vacation, I don't want to spend time setting up an appointment with my guide so that I can find out such minimal information.

We've never even meet out guide in person. She has called a couple of times mostly when there is a new resort. Pleasant enough individual, but I don't feel the need to have an ongoing relationship with her. I think some people take this whole guide thing way to seriously. Also, I can't imagine DVC needs more guides, you trip over them at every turn.

Some people on these boards feel the same way about the driver who transfers them to/from the airport. I'm not looking for a new buddy or a chatty Cathy - just a good driver who can get me where I'm going and answer my questions, if I have any. I want to relax during my transfers, not work at conversing with a stranger! My DMIL, on the other hand, is the type of person who wants to know EVERYTHING about everyone she deals with (You're from Texas? Where did you go to school? Do you know Bob Smith, he's from Oklahoma?:rotfl2: ) and could talk for a whole trans-Pacific flight to a perfect stranger.
