After many discussions, my DH and I decided it was best to put Riese, our 14 yr old Rottie, to sleep. He has lost so much weight, and could barely support himself on his back legs. The arthritis in his hips had gotten worse over the past month. I took him this morning at 9:30. I am going to miss him so much. I made arrangements to have him creamated and the animal cemetary is going to spread his ashes and send us the notification of where he will be so we can go and visit his sight. I'm told the place is beautiful with ponds & ducks....he'll love it.

Thank you Riese for being our best friend, companion, and guardian for the last 14 years. We love you and are going to miss you greatly.

I know how hard it is to make a decision like this. You did this out of love. You took away his pain and now you have it in your heart. Although Riese is no longer with you in body, he will ALWAYS be with you in spirit. He is playing now with our furbabies at the Rainbow Bridge, no longer in pain, no longer suffering.

Sending you many hugs and prayers to help you get through this difficult time. :grouphug:

I'm so sorry  He knows how much you loved him :goodvibes

I am so sorry. He was a beautiful dog.

I'm sorry, but I do think you did the right thing. He is in a better place now with no pain. Hugs to you. :grouphug:

Thank you all for your well wishes. My eyes feel like they're going fall out of my head. I'm trying to stay strong about this because the kids don't know yet. I told them mommy had a headache, that's why her eyes are so puffy.

Anyway, yes, Rotties are WONDERFUL, LOVING, CARING dogs, even though they have been given a bad wrap by some people. My dad used to hate that we had a Rottie and would always say to get rid of him. Then he got to spend some time w/ Riese and really fell in love. When I called to tell him what was going on, he was quiet for a few seconds and then said he was sorry to hear that. My dad used to be the kind that said "It's just a dog." He doesn't say that anymore. He understands.

Again, thank you for listening....I know some of you have been through this, but this is my first time. It sucks.

I am so sorry for your loss. He was a handsome dog! They become a part of the family. Take care.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know your heart is breaking, but you know you did the right thing for your best friend. :grouphug: :grouphug:

I am so sorry for your loss Marie. I do understand how much it hurts to lose a best friend. :grouphug:

My deepest sympathy and condolences, we put our sweet baby to sleep last Sunday after almost 16 years. I miss her terribly. I will be thinking of you, this is so hard. But, I can say each day gets a little better. Big hugs to you and your family. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

By the way, my eyeballs made it through. Barely, but they are still there, and yours will be too. Allow yourself as much crying as you need. It helps me to remind myself that we provided our dog with the ultimate act of love and compassion. My heart is aching for us both.

Such a beautiful boy!!!

It's the final act of love that we can do for our furry friends...let them go without terrible suffering.

Bless you.

Now you have a  :dog2:
