Rotties are wonderful dogs (ours is 13 years old) and really become such a part of the family. This must be so hard on you. You did the right thing, though, and Riese will always be in your heart.

I too am very sorry. I lost my Rottie two years ago and I still cry sometimes. She was the best. You were correct in your post when you said that Rotties are wonderful dogs.

I feel your pain. It will subside with time!! We had to put our Sadie (lab) down 2 years ago. She was my running bud. It just about broke my heart. She is now a garden in my back yard with a couple of pupppy statues. I still step over her in the kitchen. My thoughts are with you !!!

Thank you all so much! I do appreciate all the warm wishes and condolences. I'm doing better today...trying to be strong for the kids....we are on "vacation", visiting releatives, so I don't want to tell them until the weekend is over. I want them to have a good trip and not dwell and be sad. My dad wants us to get another dog right away, but I really don't think I can do that. I also have no idea how to tell the kids. I was talking to my mom and kinda laughed about how they told us when a pet would die. "We have some bad news...Hugo, the St. Bernard fell asleep under the school bus." (It really did happen) Growing up on a farm, you dealt w/ it and went on...dogs came and went...none for any length of time...certainly not 14 years!
I'll figure out a way to tell them....
