So I have been a skeptic of the crocs since first reading about them here. So this past weekend I decided to test them out. I wore them all day Friday at DLC and DCA then all day Saturday and Sunday at the San Diego Zoo.
I have very sensitive feet and get hot spots VERY easily when I wear the same shoe every day so this was a BIG test for me - especially since I was wearing them without socks.
The good:
My feet never once got hot or sweaty. That is the biggest plus for me. In my addidas my feet get hot. I also liked having the option of wearing the strap on rides where I thought my shoes might fall off (i.e.: Soarin) - unlike thongs which I sometimes wear. On water rides I didn't have to worry about wet socks - the crocs dry pretty quickly and can be dried off fast, if desired, with paper towels in the bathroom. No squeaky, squishy shoes for the entire day after a water ride. I have a callous on my right big toe which has been there forever and gets painful at times. No issues with the crocs at all. Even after three full days in warm weather of walking all day long, my feet never hurt and my legs and back never got tired.
The bad:
Sorry folks but these shoes are UGLY - but that will not stop me from using them. At the zoo, my feet did get somewhat dirty - its a zoo after all. There were times when I felt I could use a more supportive shoe, but with no leg, foot or back soreness this morning I feel that this shoe is a real winner.
Some suggestions:
Don't buy them without trying them on first. Don't wear them for three days straight without first breaking them in. I have been breaking mine in so they mold to my footbed - I do have a little bit of soreness around my callous this morning but not bad like it would have been if I had worn my addidas for three days. If your feet are subject to dryness and cracking, may I suggest using a good foot scrub nightly as well as a good moisturizer to keep your feet in tip top shape for your entire trip - make sure your moisturizer is completely soaked in before you put your crocs on. Don't allow your feet to slip and slide around in them or any other shoes for that matter.
Don't buy substitutes. They are not made of the same material as crocs. They are rubber and heat up from the temperature of your feet and the heat of the pavement.
Well, that's my review. Hope it helps some of you out there.
