I am just going to write a brief overview of our trip for now, and although I think I am the funniest person I know, I am too tired to be very clever right now. We just got home last night, and I have spent the morning collecting all of our pets from their various vacation zones, getting groceries, feeding the family, etc. I am bushed, but here goes. We both WDW and US parks equally, so I will post on both boards.

This was our third trip to Orlando, and the reason we were making this epic journey was so our 10 year old son could ride the Incredible Hulk at Islands of Adventure. When we went with friends last year he was thismuch too short, and we promised we would take him this year. He ate lots of vegetables and took V8 juice boxes in his lunch for most of the year to make sure he would make the height restriction, but it was still touch and go before we left.

We packed alot in during the first 3 days and utilized our park hoppers for the first time. We stayed offsite, first at Sheraton Safari for 2 days, and then moved to Orbit One in a 2 bdrm condo for a week. The first day, we arrived at Magic Kingdom at 4, just as they were letting in the Party guests. We were not participating in the MVMCP this trip, so we only stayed until 6:30 or so and then took the monorail to Epcot. The next day was MGM and then Saturday was Ak until 3:30, and after we checked in to Orbit One, we went to Magic Kingdom again and stayed until about 11:20.

Sunday, we rested from our 3 previous busy days, and then went to DTD for the afternoon. We took the boat to OKW and looked aroung a little, then took the bus from there to Poly for our dinner reservation at 'Ohanas. This was a first for us and we all enjoyed our meal, particularily my husband who I nicknamed "Caveman" ("Meat GOOD") I checked in 30 mins early but told them I was happy to wait for a window table. We were rewarded by not having anyone's rear end in our dinner during the activities, and we enjoyed Wishes right after dessert. The kids participated in all of the activities, and I believe my husband ate his weight in shrimp. Our son was not enjoying his meal, although we would have made him eat it, our waitress over heard and offered to get him something from Kona. He was very happy to accept Chicken Strips and fries, which he shared with his sister. It made me happy too, since we were paying adult prices for them and I wasn't keen on them leaving the table hungry. After dinner we strolled around the grounds of the Poly. The CM at the concierge station provided me with a map of the resort and invited us to enjoy the beach to watch the water parade and fireworks. I know that some of you will not be happy to hear that, as there is a lot of talk about the resort being for the exclusive use of resort guests, but I guess she thought that after spending big $$ for dinner at 'Ohanas, we qualified as "guests". We did not over stay our welcome, however, and just strolled the beach, checked out the pools, and then caught the bus back to DTD. We had left a hat to be embrodered at the Christmas Shop and it wasn't going to be ready til the evening anyway, so we had decided to leave the car and use Disney transport for the rest of the day. Now it was time to retrieve the hat and head for home.

Monday we decided we wouldn't wait any longer to find out if the boy wonder could ride the Hulk. I think I was more excited than he was to see his head over the red line! His sister is afraid of the Hulk so she held our bags. It was literally 5 minutes from the time we entered the line until we were back, however, in that 5 minutes, she started to get very ill. She said her eye hurt and she couldn't see well, but she wanted to do Spiderman. Again we walked right on, but by the time were done, she was starting to get a headache. I will skip right to the nitty gritty. I suspect she had food poisoining from the disgusting Egg McMuffins that we (she and I) had for breakfast at McBloat's. Neither of us ate them, but she had a little more of hers than I had of mine. After she threw up a few times, and had a nap, she was fine for the rest of the day. It struck suddenly and violently, but when it was over, it was over. I wasn't feeling great either, but I hadn't eaten as much of my "Botulism in a Bag" as she did. The good news is, our son got to ride Hulk and Dueling Dragons several times while our daughter rested at the First Aid station ( I had taken her to the car to rest from her "headache", and when the symptoms worsened quickly, I took her to First Aid. I left her to lie down for a minute while I went to get my husband, but by the time we got back 10 mins later, she had thrown up and fallen asleep. I didn't want to wake her, so I stayed with her while she napped, and DH & DS did some rides). I just wanted to explain so you would all know that we didn't force a sick child to wait while her brother enjoyed the park.

I guess this is a little longer than I planned...it will have to be installments after all!

I thought we could go and visit the different resorts and look them over to see if we want to go to that particular resort the next trip......I mean its not like you used their pool.....
Glad that your dd was feeling better......I have read that there was alot of the stomach bug going around ......everywhere....here and there.

Thanks for your report

You can visit the resorts, but there are some folks who feel that those who do not pay to stay at the deluxe resorts should not be able to take up space there that might infringe on a paying guest. Pool hopping aside, as that is NOT allowed. I saw someone post some time ago that they did not feel "outsiders" should be able to watch the fireworks from the beach at the Grand Floridian, when in fact, we have been "invited" twice now when having a late meal at 1900 Park Fare to go out and enjoy them!

OP I'm glad your DD recovered quickly and was able to go on and enjoy your trip!

Sorry your daughter got sick. It really sounds like food poisoning that it came on really fast. If it is the stomache flu, usually you feel like awful for awhile and then it starts in and last 24-36 hours.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the positive thoughts. I was feeling a little lonely over here!

We had a pretty good trip, but I was very stressed with work before I left and I didn't even feel like going on the trip. Like a complete idiot, I chose to work on vacation because I only had a few things going on that I could easily keep up with by email. Of course you know what happens to the "best laid plans", right? I WAS the self-important moron going around the parks madly checking email on my blackberry, but I actually had a very good reason. Somewhere between leaving my house on Wed night and arriving in Orlando on Thursday, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE! I am a mortgage broker, and I had 3 files closing on Friday: 1 purchase, and 2 refinances. The purchase was falling apart because despite the lender telling me on MONDAY that the file was complete, on Thursday, less than 24 hours from closing, I got an email that she "just remembered, we still need XXX". I thought I was going to puke in the parking lot! Anyway, the rep for that particular company used to be a consultant in my office, so I sent him some frantic (and blistering) emails, and he got involved and got it straightened out., but I didn't finally get the confirmation that it REALLY was complete until Friday. One of the refinances was for an older couple who apparently didn't read the email I sent explaining the documents they had to sign ( they were sent as attachments with the same email, so I don't know how they could have missed it!). Anyway, the fella panicked because he didn't understand something, but I actully got that straightened out with one email while waiting for the luggage. My husband bought me the blackberry in the summer, insisting that I needed to keep up with technology. I DISPISE IT, but I always said that someday I would be somewhere and have to use it to save a deal, and it would all be worth it. Well, Thursday was that day. My husband came to regret making that purchase for me.

Anyway, the rambling point I am trying to make is that all the stress I had before and during the trip, albeit of my own making, has coloured my perception. I am not feeling very pro-Disney right now, and not even feeling as fondly towards my beloved Universal and Islands of Adventure. I think I was just wired with negativity so a lot of things irritated me, or at the very least, failed to impress me. I think I will save the rest of the trip report until I get over feeling like such a ******* for putting myself and my family through the horror that was my "working holiday"
