My niece has Norwalk virus...

apparently it's going around oN LAND here in the NJ/NYC area now. She spent yesterday morning in the ER but is doing much better now. Just needed to be re-hydrated and was given anti-nausea meds.

How are they diagnosing the Norwalk virus?

Is it just by symptoms alone...or is there some kind of medical testing done?

It sounds like another nasty case of gastroenteritis to me.

Either way, I'm glad your niece is doing better...and I hope that nasty virus stays put up there! But with people traveling over the holidays, it's bound to spread!

I don't know! I'll have to ask my brother if they tested her or just went by syptoms (they were quite severe).

house for CHristmas Eve...she's on dialysis and can't take the chance of getting the virus (whether it was truly Norwalk or not!).
