I've been doing my own version of WW/Atkins! I can't go TRUE Atkins, since I'm a vegetarian! And, I've been committed to the WW WOE for going on 2 years now, so I can't quit counting my points!

It's really hard trying to count carbs, AND points, AND figure out what to eat in place of all that meat! LOL It's also VERY hard, (but fun!) to get myself to buy, much less EAT non fat-free cheese!

I've basically been eating 2-3 eggs or Eggbeaters with Bacos, 2-3 oz. cheese by itself, 1-2 Boca burgers with mayonnaise, a salad with dressing, and either some grape tomatoes, or celery with some more cheese.

I ate a tiny piece of bread today, totally by accident! HONEST!! I went to St. Louis Bread Company (also known as Panera's in other parts of the country) to get a salad. On the way out, I just automatically picked up one of the little samples of a new bread that they had sitting on a tray. I popped it in my mouth and was swallowing when I thought, "Oops!" LOL

Hopefully, I will have a loss when I weigh in on Saturday. If not, I think I may be forced to cut off an arm or leg to make that darn scale move!!!

Debbie

Debbie, you can do it! And you WILL do it!!! Well.... not the cut off your arm or leg part.... the part about losing some pounds!
I have often thought of putting an Atkins 'twist' to WW. When I hit a plateau, I will go to the low carb WW plan to jump start things again.

And, I would like to point out, you are REALLY making me miss STL!! When my family comes down to visit (or when we go up), we always always always stop at STL Bread and get bags of bread to bring home. I have even gotten some friends hooked. ;) It's sooooooo Yummy!!!

If anyone can come up with a vegetarian Atkins plan and make it work it's you, Debbie.

I can't wait to see how this works for you :)

Kath: Well, one thing I can tell you is that I'm hungry! I've only been doing this for 4 days so far, so no loss of appetite here yet. But honestly, I don't even think I'd recognize a "loss of appetite" if it came knocking on my door! LOL

If I can stick this out for 2 full weeks, then do I get to have some fruits, more veggies, etc? Pleeeeeeeease???????

geetey: I LOVE St. Louis Bread Company! More for the soups than the sandwiches. (They only have one vegetarian sandwich and it gets boring.) I really LOVE going there on a cold winter day and getting a hot bowl of soup and sitting by the fireplace and reading.

Debbie:earsgirl:

(Oh my gosh! I just realized I haven't eaten since lunch! I only had a salad and some grape tomatoes then, and that was about 12:30 this afternoon and it's now 11:30 PM! There was just too much going on around here with trying to keep all the family informed about my oldest DD's being in the hospital and youngest DD having a choir performance. No time to eat. No wonder I'm starving now!) I'm thinking I'll have some cheese, then go to bed!)

CDoobee- I'd be really curious to know some of the ways you make sure you get your protein and not eat meat. I don't eat meat either and I always seem to be lacking in the protein department. Every now and then I eat chicken or turkey but I really don't like doing it. I can't seem to give up tacos for good, about once a month ;) I just have this craving for them and I make them with ground turkey. Do you have any easy vegetarian recipes you could share? It's hard since my husband does eat meat so I usually cook a full meal and I just eat the side dishes, which is not so good with the carbs plus no protein.

-Becky

PS- Congrats on your loss! :)

YOU GO GIRL! You can do it! Try having some sugar free peanut butter on celery sticks on occasion to get that extra bit of protein in. You'll have to count the fats -- but it will be the healthy kind of fat.

Good Luck with your plan.
:D

Debbie,I think you picked a very healthy plan! I've been on a modified vegetarian Atkins since April 1, (I say modified because I eat seafood/fish). I have gone down one pant size and almost ready to go down another. It's amazing :D

I eat a boca burger once in a while, a lot of tofu and spinich(for my carbs) a small salad everyday, cheese, egg beaters whites only.
I think the only difference is that I eat some seafood and fish(you didn't mention if you did?)
I don't eat any turkey, chicken or red meat. I feel like I get plenty of protein. Good thing I live on the Cape where fish is as fresh as it can be. I get it right from the docks or we catch it ourselves 6 mo. out of the year.

ZPT1022, Do you eat any fish or tofu or boca burgers or anything like that? If not it sounds like the only way for you to get any protein is maybe an Atkins Protein Shake or something like that. I had a vanilla one the other day for lunch and it was OK. It says to drink very cold, but I liked it better after it got warm.

Sounds like a plan to me:D

Hi ZPT1022. Do you mind if I call you Becky? It's really good to see you here on WISH. Are you going to be joining us? There's a place for you right there between Lynn CC and Cdoobee. They are both very nice and friendly and will make you feel right at home :) Or you could sit next to me or wovenwonder if you prefer, we're not vegans though ;)

We could use you in our support group, hope you decide to join us.

Debbie, no wonder you were so hungry, goodness gracious. Don't forget to eat! You can have more fruits and veggies at the end of the two weeks. 5 whole grams more :teeth:

Katholyn

Katholyn,
I have been lurking over here for a few days and I think I need to be an active participant. Maybe it will help me keep in check. Right now I have no real diet plan other than to keep going to Curves and to try not to snack at night ;) Well, maybe not not snack, but not on chocolate :) Maybe having some weight loss buddies will help me focus. I keep reading people's signatures over here and some of the results are beyond impressive!!

Lynn,
I don't eat any fish or tofu or boca burgers. I have an aversion to fish left over from my pregnancy. Tofu I have had out at a restaurant and it was soooo good (it was a stir fry) but I have no idea how to cook it at home. I need to learn! I have picked up a few vegetarian things from the supermarket including faux "chicken" patties and those are really good!!! I do eat nuts sometimes, but I've heard those aren't always the best for you so I try to keep it in moderation. If you have any good tofu or soy recipes to share I'd appreciate it!! Does your whole family eat vegetarian foods? Dh still likes meat which sometimes makes it hard for me, but if I got some good recipes maybe he wouldn't feel like he was missing out!

Everyone here is so friendly! Thanks so much for the warm welcome and CDoobee (Debbie) so sorry to be a thread hijacker ;)

 Becky- First, let me say WELCOME to WISH!!!! Everyone here is so supportive! They encourage and empathize with you when you're down and celebrate with you when you're up. (I guess for a weight loss board that would be the opposite! heehee ;) )
Second, let me say sorry I didn't get back to you last night. I just saw your posts today. Unfortunately, I'm not the best one to ask about protein. I don't know the answer! I have no idea if I get enough protein! I don't even know how much IS enough! However, your question did get me to thinking, so thanks! I went and checked my freezer. Boca burgers, which I eat probably 4-5 times a week have 13g (26% Daily Value). I also occasionally eat (for 2 weeks at least though I'm not eating bread) Morningstar Farms brand veggie corn dogs. Also, rarely Morningstar Farms brand veggie chicken patties (which have too many WW points to eat very often!). These all have some protein. I used to eat peanut butter but I rarely do now, only because I'm usually not willing to use up my WW points on something that small. As for recipes, you REALLY asked the wrong person! I told a friend about that and she laughed, and said, "she doesn't know you, does she!?"  I never cook! My DH used to, but now it's pretty much everyone for themselves, and a lot of convenience foods. My 11 year old DD and I have been vegetarians for almost 3 years now.meat of any kind, including seafood. We also don't eat any yogurt, jello, candy, etc. that has gelatin in it. It's hard and we really have to read labels. You'd be surprised how many things have gelatin! Also, lots of things you'd never suspect have chicken stock or beef broth, including supposedly "vegetable" soups!  We do eat eggs and dairy, though. My DH and 18 year old son are meat eaters, though. :p :p

 Jody- I can't wait until I can have peanut butter! I rarely eat it, but I've been eating so much celery with cheese this week I REALLY want some peanut butter on it instead! I'm TRYING to do as close to the Induction phase of Atkins as I can. I don't know that I'll last 2 weeks. I'm taking it a day at a time. Today is day 5. Tomorrow morning is WW weigh-in, so I'll see if these 5 days have helped me off the plateau I've been sitting on!

 Lynn- Nope, my DD and I don't eat any seafood, either. We don't eat any animal products at all, except eggs and dairy. I occasionally have eaten something, then later found out it had gelatin or something in it and I actually felt ill!! We also don't wear leather and I will not even buy leather shoes or belts, etc. for my DH and DS who DO wear it. If they want it, they can go buy it themselves!

 Katholyn- I can't WAIT until I can add some fruits and more veggies! Which sounds so strange to me! Until 3 years ago when I became a vegetarian (and even more so 2 years ago when I became a WW) I was a junk food junkie!! I LIVED on fast food chicken, fries, onion rings, chips, cookies, ice cream, etc. etc. etc. AND Diet Coke! I think the only veggies I ate was the fries and onion rings, and maybe an occasional salad. I had to learn to try (and surprisingly liked!) many different foods. I'll try just about anything now as long as it doesn't contain animal or isn't too spicy! I'm actually craving an apple! :earseek: :earseek:

Debbie:earsgirl:
