My new DSLR camera just arrived!

Hi. I purchased a Canon Rebel T4i and it has so many bells and whistles that I'm tempted to just put it back in the box! Lol! I won't though! It's got so many cool features and, of course, I have no idea how to use them. I'm reading the manual (because I'm a read the manual, follow the riles type of person) and boy there's a ton of info in there! Before buying this camera I had been practicing in manual mode on my Kodak bridge camera. Now that I have this camera I'm a little intimidated by all of the features. I shot some pics in auto and they were ok. Definitely better than the Kodak that's for sure. I'm excited to put to use some of the things I learned in a Understanding Exposure. I feel like I need to go back and read it from the beginning though! I've forgotten most of it. Well so here I go! On to a new adventure! Any tips for this newbie on how to stay learning mor about this camera? Are there any auto settings that you just love on it?

Good choice mate, Canon is the best as far as photography and cameras concern. But you need to stick with the ideal lenses once to up to take images.

I also have a T4i and life it. It was my first DSLR camera. I'm still learning lots. I really like the touch screen. It makes it so much easier to adjust settings just before a shot.

Keep at it for a couple weeks using what you know and figuring out the setting and you'll be fine. And don't feel bad about being intimidated. I just got a 6D (I had a 50D) and there are so many features I've yet to touch on this thing. I'm still reading the manual and in some ways it's like starting over yet again because there are just so many new features. And I'm already envious of your T4i's ability to use STM lenses. I may have to add one to my bag later this year just for that. Never thought I'd get into using a DSLR for video but after a couple days I'm hooked.

So my advice is to read that manual and take it one feature at a time.

the manual is a good start but like others have said, just go out and shoot plenty of pics. Most start with auto mode and eventually move to the "creative" modes like Av, Tv and manual when they learn more about the "exposure triangle"
