so I need some pixie dust and some ideas for a gift basket of things to keep her busy.

She is still in ICU, and probably will be for (hopefully only) another 24-48 hrs. When she gets out of there I would like to have some fun stuff to occupy her while she's stuck in bed (she'll be in bed for several weeks).

I already plan on printing out some pics of DD's to put in frames for her and we also bought her a handheld Tetris game. I also thought of wordsearch/logic puzzle books. She can't have any type of food/drink.

Thanks for any suggestions and help. :sunny:

:grouphug: pixiedust: Here's a hug and some pixiedust. As for the basket, how about some magazines. They're so expensive, and I rarely buy them for myself, but when I'm sick I love to have a big pile of new magazines to read. The more mindless, the better.

Personally, I would enjoy magazines and some scented lotion that reminds me of home.

Oh, my!

How about some magazines, books, and favorite hand lotion just to name a few items.

Sending her :grouphug: :wizard: in hopes she gets better soon.

pixiedust: You may want to see if you can barrow the vcr or dvd player and rent some movies she would like. I work on a med/surg unit and we keep a tv with a dvd player on our unit for patient education purposes. When not in use we gladly let patients use it. Hope she has a speedy recovery.

:wizard: For your Mom's recovery. I agree that magazines are a great way to pass time without too much energy. When my DH was in the hospital, he also liked those circle word puzzles. They occupy you, but you really do not need to concentrate.

thanks for the replies. :sunny:

I will get her some magazines...I actually subscribe to a few so I'll bring the new ones to her. I'll get a word search book, too, to occupy her. If she doesn't use it, DH will when he has his surgery in a month and a half.
When will the hospital trips end?

If anyone else has any suggestions, I'm very appreciative. Thanks :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the support...

I'm just bumping to see if anyone else has ideas for gifts?

She's still in ICU (now they won't tell us how long she'll be there) but I would love to have a great giftbasket to give her when she gets out.
thanks

:grouphug: Hope your mom gets well soon!

Does she do any crafts like knitting or needlepoint? Would she feel up to something like that?

How old are your daughters? Could they draw some pretty pictures for her? I know my mom would love that.

What about a new comfy nightgown/pj's and/or robe and slippers.

There is a good chance she might be too wiped out to do much of anything for a while - remember not to overstay on visits or have too many people visiting at once (patients don't want to offend their families but are often exhausted when they leave).

Bring in a comforter, pillow and pj's from home - the comforters are especially nice since it can get cold in the rooms.

Pictures from home are great, don't forget pets!

Lots of people bring laptops on which they can email, surf the net and/or watch DVDs.

Clean magazines (as opposed to the ones in the waiting rooms) are nice, or a good novel.

Many hospitals, including mine, are fragrance free so I wouldn't recommend scented lotions (although I welcome the pleasant scents in rooms myself). :teeth:

Don't forget candy/treats she can keep in her room to share with staff - she will be very popular! ;)

Best wishes to your mom for a speedy recovery. :grouphug:

pixiedust: Pixie dust and prayers are for you and your mother :grouphug:

Thanks again!! I REALLY appreciate the imput!

Right now she's very heavily "medicated" (she's called my dad to pick her up b/c her "bus" didn't come....but she has at least a 6" incision on her stomach).

I bought her a handheld boggle game (she's addicted to the computer version) and a handheld tetris game. She most definately is banned from anything yummy b/c of her surgery.

Does anyone have any suggestions for handcreams?

Again, I totally appreciate you guys. It really means a lot.
