:( She was walking the dog and tripped on an uneven part of the sidewalk. The emergency room was jammed and it took 8 painful hours for her to be seen. They sent her home w/a walker, and said there isn't much you can do for a pelvic fracture and to make a follow up appt. with an orthopod. She has osteoarthritis and osteoporosis/stenosis, so she has a slew of doctors to choose from, but I just thought that was odd, I figured bed rest, take it easy:confused: She has just recovered from a broken rib injury due to a fall in a parking lot...she is really down on herself as she feels she is loosing her abilities. We were just there(FL) for X-Mas as I knew she was down....
Does anyone know if what she was told is correct? To just let time heal it?
Thanks,
Pam

I can't answer your question, Pam but just want to offer you and your Mom a hug....

God bless,

Robinrs

I don't know anything about a broken pelvis but I wanted to send prayers and pixie dust that your Mom has a speedy recovery.

the pain is severe and she is on morphine now......but there is not much to do.......they first say......keep resting and yet she still has to get up to prevent blood clots from forming.......she is in her own apartment but we can be there in a second if she needs us......she has had regular x rays at the ER and they did a bone scan which they injected dye and then three hours later have the scan.....and then she just had a cat scan which is supposedly better......this has been going on for 8 weeks.......the walker takes pressure off her area when she walks.......tell her to put a little holder on the front of her walker and she can carry her phone in it so she will not rush if she hears it bellowing.....hope yours feels better soon.......

My dad's pelvis was broken, when a ditch caved in on him. Pain meds, rest, but also physical therapy was his treatment. He stayed in the hospital for a while tho as his hip was broken as well.

Hope your Mom is soon feeling better.

Oh man, that sounds so painful. Hugs and prayers to your mom.

Hi Pam,
What you were told is correct. A pelvic fracture, while quite painful, does not require any surgical intervention. Time, rest, and gentle activity is really all she needs. A walker will help take the pressure off her pelvis, yet she may feel a lot of groin pain, especially when she first stands up. She needs to keep moving and do some light exercise, did they recommend any physical therapy? It take about 6 weeks to heal, but she should gradually feel better as those weeks go by. Best wishes to both of you.

Wow, what a bummer, and 8 hours!!! Yikes. Hope she feels better soon and heals fully. And NO more spills, she needs to watch it.
