I reserved the condo for our Nov trip MONTHS ago. Arriving Thursday, Nov 11th and checking out Sunday, the 21st.

I don't know what the h*!! I was thinking but I made the reservations for checking out on the 20th!
The confirmation even says this but I didn't catch it. I've been saying 11th thru the 20th all this time. :confused3

Fast forward to now----I started getting my planning notebook together and noticed the check out date! I emailed the owner to tell him of my mistake but they don't have that Saturday night available now. Someone is coming in that day and staying through Thanksgiving. I'm so sad.

We can't add a day to the beginning of the trip because DH had to put in for his vacation days back in January. The chance of getting that day are slim.
DH wants to just come home Saturday the 21st and not worry about it. I suggested one night at the Nickelodeon hotel and then leaving Sunday but he thinks it's too much bother. I think he might be right but I'm so mad at myself for costing us that last day!!

How hard would it be to spend Saturday night at the Nick hotel and then leave Sunday? We are flying in but will have a rental car.

For one day, I would probably just go home. It is a nice length trip still. I know it is hard to do. Mine always get longer and longer. Last trip we spent two day in a different hotel at the end and it seemed too short to be worth the trouble.

Can you make a new reservation at a different hotel/condo? Maybe there is another one available in the same complex that you like. To me it would be worth it to change if it means an extra day. Good luck.

That is such a bummer! I encountered some confusion when renting a home in Orlando last year. With a hotel if your reserve dates, the last date provided usually is the last night reserved and check out occurs the following day.

In dealing with home rentals, that has been unclear to which dates they were referring and I have had to go over and over the dates to be clear on which day I was checking out. With one owner I was originally told he had all of the dates I wanted, but in the end he did not because he thought I wanted to leave on the last date (and I tried repeatedly to be clear because I could sense some miscommunication). Perhaps this was just my limited experience, but it was frustrating.

Agree that going home is probably best. Your trip is a nice length and packing up what you need at the end of a trip for one night can be a PIA. Plus, that means a little longer to decompress at home before the work week begins.

What about a total new ressie- and do a split stay?
Or is it not possible to cancel or shorten your current ressie?

It seems like the airline change fees would end up being as much as one night in a hotel.

I would probably switch to a hotel for the last night...but, then again, I do everything possible to extend my trip!

If I were you I would do what you wanted that last day and then head out to a hotel near the airport for your last night (if you have an early to mid day flight). If you have a late day flight I would probably make plans to stay somewhere you could do something in the morning/afternoon before you leave.

Flight change fees will make it crazy expensive for you to change your flight to the day before (in all likelihood)...now if your airline changes times on you or something like that you might be able to get them to drop the change fee but aside from that I think you are better off staying the last night.

If you need to change your return flight, then I would just book a hotel for one night. Has to be cheaper than the flight change fees.

If no changes are needed, then I would just come home a day early.

i don't think it would be hard at all ... a little annoying perhaps to pack up and move ...but not awful.

you can pack just the stuff you'll need for the last day in a sep. bag. then you're not re-packing everything after your stay at the Nick hotel (or wherever you end up!)

What about staying on-site for one night? You could book Nick for now and if (hopefully when) fall discounts come out book something unique like Animal Kingdom Lodge or whatever appeals to your family.

Nick hotel is a fun atmosphere.

Look at it as a positive and make it so! This is an oppotunity to do something different.

All that said, if my hubby wanted to go ahead and pack up and get home (and the airfare wasn't too much to make that happen) that's what I'd do. Another day to recover before heading back to work would be nice.

you'll have a fab time no matter what!

We are staying in a condo too but had to book one night at a hotel. We booked through hotwire.com and got the Sheraton Suites at the airport for $58. It has a shuttle to take us to the airport so we can return our rental car the night before and save one day of car rental.

Depending when your flight leaves, you might want to consider doing something similar. That way you can maximize your Disney vacation.

I vote with the folks who are saying to get a cheapie room/rooms near the airport. If your rental car has a trunk you could just leave your bags in it for the day and tell them you'll be a late check-in.

I think this would be your best bet...it's much easier to book a hotel room than reschedule flights!

Thanks for the advice, all.

The suggestion to make a totally new ressie was my favorite and I found another condo that was just as nice, still in Windsor Hills and $10 less per night! Unfortunately, we would lose the deposit we put down on the first condo, so it looks like that's not going to work.

I'm leaning towards not trying to stay the extra night. My husband's darn practicality is making sense to me. If we just go ahead and fly back Saturday, we can use Sunday to transition back to real life.

We haven't made our flight plans yet. Booking a later flight than we normally would on Saturday would allow us to maximize our last day.

I'm still not happy with myself but I feel a little better about it. Thanks!

I actually vote with your dh on this one. If you hadn't made the mistake, so be it... but after being gone 10 days, wouldn't it be awesome to have a day to do laundry, grocery shopping, mail, etc. before the chaos of Monday ? We usually fly home on an early flight (6/7am) and are home by 10/11am. It is great to have that day as a 'decompress' day.

Regardless, you'll have a great trip!
