I saw my MIL last weekend & she said something to me that has been digging at me all week. So I figure I'll just vent here as there is no point to talking to her.

I was in my kitchen & mentioned that I was getting very excited to go to WDW this October. It's getting closer & the time is almost here. I told her I just couldn't wait to see the kids faces & to go to all our favorite dining spots & attractions. SO she says to me "well you have to get tired of Disney sometime, I mean..you can't keep doing that every year. You'll get bored eventually." :earseek: What????? So I say to her, "well theres so much to do & they added more things so each vacation can be very different" but before I could say "different" she cut me off. Then my DH walks in the room & I asked him in front of his mom "Do you get tired of going to Disney?" He looked surprised at my question & said "No, never". He tried to say something else but my MIL went on so we just dropped it.

She just got under my skin & I just had to get it out so maybe I will stop thinking about it..I love her but she has no clue. She went once in 1974 & that was good enought for her! :rolleyes2

I fell your pain :grouphug:

You know what they say... There are 2 types of people in the world: people that think Disney is the most magical place on Earth and then there are the rest of the people that have never been.

I have one of those MIL... I feel your pain. Just don't say anything that might get her thinking maybe she should give it another try and decide to go with you.

Yea your are right..I better be careful not to mention to her again how great we think it is or she might want to tag along!!!!

My MIL is like that too. She made a comment to DH last year when he was on the phone with her and he mentioned the kids and I were headed to WDW. She thinks it is too expensive as a vacation. I was kind of annoyed but DH said that I work hard all year too and the kids and I deserved that vacation. My mom likes Disney World but I know she thinks my interest in going there is over the top so I have learned not to worry about it. If people think I am strange because I go to WDW then so be it. I know for sure there are about 50,000+ people here who don't think I'm strange at all. :teeth:

People at work ask me....Don't you get tired of going to the same place all the time? Or... are you going to try to vacation some place different this year?

Thats ok that they don't get it, means it won't be as crowded for the rest of us. :)

I hear that from folks too. Basically, I figure that as long as I am not asking them for the money to go, what they think of where I vacation is not my concern.

I vacation to make me happy, not anyoen else.

My Mom used to be like that, until we dragged her down with us...and then after about the second trip, she said *so when are WE going back?* LMAO She can't miss the Flower and Garden show or the Food and Wine Festival and since we've moved here, we tend to have nonstop company :rolleyes1

We always get "Why don't you take the kids somewhere else not so commercial...like Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Maine, Vancouver etc..?"

Last time I replied that that was a great idea and now instead of traveling to Scottsdale Arizone to visit them EVERY year we would go someplace less commercial and more educational!!!!!!

Sounds like a great idea to me :teeth:

Some people just don't get it. I know in my college dorm, I can't find someone who would want to go to Disney for Spring Break. They look at me like I have 2 heads when I suggest it.

Well, actually it's my mom who says those things. Because of physical/health problems she will never be able to go with (nor would she enjoy the heat or walking). I can't decide whether she is jealous or what it is. I know she loves her grandkids more than anything and is happy when they are happy, so it puzzles me why she always nags us about "going again." I think sometimes she just worries because we are traveling and flying and it would be stressful for her if we went anywhere.

Its not just a MIL thing, I'm the MIL and I can't get my Daughter-in law (who I adore) to go with me! I just offered to take her and my wonderful 2 1/2 year old GS with us for our Halloween trip. He's never been and it's the week before his BD. But she says not now, maybe next time. :confused3
Oh well. that will be a reason for another trip sometime.

People at work think I'm nuts, you're going again.
Well, I would go everyday if I could
My family doesn't understand either, oh well--I go when I need a fix, which right now has been about 3 times a month.
Don't worry about the other people, they just don't understand.

Yeah I get the same thing from my MIL and people at work who have never been. They just don't know what they are missing. My MIL says crap like that all the time to get under my skin (it could be anything, this morning I made them pancakes and sausage and she said "Oh sausage........I never make sausage, we like bacon". I should have set out a box of cereal for everyone and sat down to read the paper with my coffee!) :maleficen That's OK, I guess I don't have to send her any pictures, I mean after all she saw last year's pics, right? ;)

I feel your pain!! I was talking to my friend and mentioned my upcoming trip to DL in Sept, and she asked didn't I just go there, and I said no, that was 3 years ago, and Florida, and she had the gall, lol, to reply well, Disney is Disney is Disney, and I tried to explain, but she don't care, all she cares about is country music and concerts, and Gerry Butler and POTO!! I mean, sure, I love country music and concerts, but I swear, the world would be boring with just that!!

Sorry, had to vent myself!!

Arrrrgh! THAT nightmare is apparently going to come true for me! DH just told me this morning that SIL is planning a trip for "the whole family" to do WDW together in Nov. 2006! Man, I'm dreading that!

I truly believe that the people who are somewhat "addicted" to Disney are those who still have a connection to their inner child. Those who embrace that happy, go lucky feeling (Fun & Fancy Free) and who haven't been so swallowed up with the adult world & all of the adult baggage that they have forgotton how to have fun. The magic of Disney is that there is a place where you can go and really submerge yourself in pure fun, fun, fun! Maybe those who don't understand have been seperated from that inner child for so long that they no longer recall what it felt like. Boy are we the lucky ones! :earboy2:

Just wanted to say, it's not just the MIL's or the DM's, sometimes it can be the grown children. This just happened a couple of days ago when I was at DD#1's house.

Me: DD#2 is having her friend that's a TA send me a brochure on a trip to Irland. Wasn't that sweet of her to think that DH and I might like to go to the Emerald Isle?

DD#1: Hate to tell you this Mom, but that's just DD#2's way of trying to get you to go on an adult vacation. She doesn't understand why you continue to go to a place made for kids!

Not sure where I went wrong. Luckily DD#1 is a firm supporter of our WDW trips. Her thought is, if it makes you happy, go for it. I have one more chance with DD#2. In 2007 we are planning a grand gathering. All 6 of the kids, their spouces, and the 11 DGC. Wish me luck! :wizard:
