My little pet peeve...

I "could care less." No, actually you mean "you couldn't care less." If you could care less it implies that you do care somewhat..

"This is just so flustrating." No, it is frustrating. I think people have put the word flustered and frustrated together to make this one. (My Mom says this one, but you don't correct your mother.)

The traffic was backed up because someone wrecked their car in the medium. No, they wrecked in the median.(My Mom calls this one "media".)

Well we had went to the store. No, you had gone to the store.(Hey, I'm from Alabama I could go on and on.)

It is very unique. No it is unique. Unique means one of a kind, it cannot be very one of a kind. It either is or isn't, there are not varying degrees of uniqueness.

All for now..Bob
:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Oh, there's another one I see often: Askerhaus (wrong) instead of Akershus (correct). It ain't German! :rotfl:

I hate it when a realtor cannot pronounce "realtor." I refuse to use the services of a person who cannot properly pronounce their own profession. It's REAL-TOR, not REAL-A-TOR. These are usually the same people that will put a listing in the paper describing your house as having a "formal dinning room." Run from them.:rotfl2:

I hate it when people spell colour color.
It is a very popular mistake.;)
This is a joke btw before i get flamed.:thumbsup2

While we're at it, ACCOMMODATE - double c, double m. It's one of the most frequently misspelled words in the English language. One of my missions in life is to make sure it's always spelled correctly. I had a journalism professor in college who had a pet peeve about people spelling accommodate with only one c or one m. A couple of years after I graduated, he died at his desk while working at our local newspaper. I really liked him so I've decided to carry on his mission! So come on people, let's make sure everyone is accommodated! Let's all book our accommodations! Let's accommodate everyone and everything!!!!!;)

An easy way for people to remember this is 2 cots (C) and 2 mattresses (M) ;)

Bonny

I hate it when they announce at the airport that we should be boarding "Momentarily". This would literally mean that we have to get on the plane and then get back off in just a moment. They should say that we will be boarding in a moment or just a few moments. The word momentarily means "for a moment".

I also hate the increasing popularity of the word "conversate". This is NOT a word. You either converse with someone or you have a conversation with them, you DO NOT conversate.

Tampan :lmao: Now that is bad...

I have to admit to a huge pet peeve. I can't stand hearing someone pronounce forte as FOR-TAY. GARGRRRRRRGHHHHH!!!!

one's strong point/skill = sounds like FORT
Musical instruction, meaning loud = sounds like FOR-TAY

Though we've pretty much butchered most of the origin anyway, and it's so widely mispronounced it has sort of taken on its own level of acceptance (like starting a sentence with "Due to.") But I'm just going to be fuddy duddy on this one.

Orientate, isn't the word orient? As in "We used the map to orient ourselves." :confused3

You're going to have to explain to me why this bothers you. I mean, does it also bother you that

MexicO - MexiCAN food
EnglAND - EnglISH peas
CanadA - CanadIAN maple syrup

I live in TexAS, but I'm called a TexAN.

I think it's just one of those quirks of the language. I really wish I'd taken etymology in college to understand how we decided on these things.

But if I'm missing your point, please let me know. I'm kind of curious.

Ok, so then people from England speak "The Queen's English" since she lives in England?

And you, from Texas - also where the President is from can say you speak "The President's English?"

Sorry, bad joke. Made me laugh at myself though

You can try, but then I might have to pants you in public.

But what if you're writing "Boma's servers are wonderful" or "'Ohana's atmosphere is chaotic"....
Well, aside from the correct (written) form being," 'Ohana's atmosphere is chaotic... " ;)

You missed the point. It annoys me when people get it WRONG, not the fact that the words are different....

I was born and raised in Texas and I cannot UNDERSTAND the president's English, let alone SPEAK it.

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Rrrrr...the apostrophe is there. Or were you saying there should be a space between the quotation mark and the apostrophe? Though a full space seems weird, excepting the use of creative kerning to help the eye.

My mistake - you're correct. I promise - no more answering posts in the middle of the night! :teeth:
