My Lion King framing job stinks!

So to keep my mind off everything I decided I was going to frame my small (filled up one page of a pin book) collection of Lion King pins and that would be it for Lion King.

I was shopping around for fabric and found a couple of interesting ones, but then I saw this framed picture of a coconut tree, where the matting looked like straw, and I thought it would be a nice background.

So I tore the paper off the back, stuck the pins in around the tree and some on the mat (it turned out the picture of the tree was actually on this oak tag like stuff so it was easy to punch pins into it). Then I put it all back in the frame.

Now, the frame seems great for these types of pins (sort of a cracked greenish gold) and so did everything else...but when I put it all together it just seems so...bland. I think there's just way too much tan in it (tan straw matting, tan background to tree, tannish tree, primarily orange, black and tan pins).

So I'm trying to decide what to do. The dumb picture of the coconut tree cost $20, and it certainly won't look good by itself with a bunch of pinholes stuck in it! But, it really just looks so boring. I did buy some fabric; one is also tannish (I guess that's out!) and one is actually a black and orange shimmery tiger-like print.

I'm at a loss here. Anyone have any suggestions? I wish I had a digital camera so I could show you a picture.

Yours tannily,

How many pins? And are they different characters?

And can we see a picture of what you tried so far.....just in case it's not as bad as you described and might just need a little suggestion to make it right?

Hi Nat,

Thanks for any help. There are 27 pins in all. The biggest is the Disneyana Family Pride pin, and the second largest is the History of Art pin. They are all different characters, but mostly Simba and Nala at various life stages, Pumba and Timon, a couple of Rafiki, and one Scar. The ones that don't fit in as well (no character) are the Lion King Broadway pin, the Simba Cast ID, and the Festival of the Lion King pin from WDW. Both the Mother's Day and Father's Day pins from this year are in the collection. If I count, about 16 of the pins feature one or more of the lions. There are no Zazu or Hyena pins.

Does that help at all?

I would be happy to, but I don't have a digital camera. I know, I'm living in the dark ages....

Sharon,

Bring it to the pin meet on Saturday and we can take a digital picture of it for you.

but I think Nat could do a fine business having a Pin Framing House Call side business!

I wish I could help Sharon, but I am not so good at this framing thing yet.

We have another great framer here in CT. Jim (donaldfanatic) does some truly magnificent work on his pins. I'm not sure if he's coming this Saturday to West Farms Mall, but I know he's coming to the Fall Foliage Meet next week. I know he'd be able to make some suggestions. He might even have the "perfect" background for you.

Cynthia is right,
Nat I love your framing handiwork but you have got to come to one of our meets and see what Jim can do. He took a Daisy rack pin and combined it with the Daisy autograph card, put some great graphics behind it and it looks like an LE of 10. Even better than what Disney does.
He has some of the best backgrounds and incredible ideas. Joanne, you have to photograph some of his handiwork and post it here. Peggie

take some pictures.. I wanna see!!!!

here are a few ideas....

You can go to any craft store in the area and get some stickers of the alphabet. On the matte or on the background place the title....

Like: The Circle of Life, or The Lion King or My Pin Collection 2002

Simba and Friends......anything you can think of. Try and find a darker color than you matte, like brown or a leafy letter would be nice.

You can also add clip art of the Lion King to the corners of the framing. I usually put a mickey standing in the bottom of the frame, and letter the side or top and then place the pins around that. If you dont get good clip art, try the scrapbook isle of the craft store for disney cut outs....

Let me know if this helps at all. I have framed tons of pins, some I love, some are so so......it gets easier each time.

Paw prints too!!!! around the letters or the matte......a round circle the size of a dime or smaller with three smaller circles above it look like tiger paws......practice first.....guess how I know to do that..lol.
