My last ditch attempt at finding dd's lost lovey

Last year my DD 'misplaced' her 'puppy' during a 5 day driving vacation from Northern Ontario Canada to Orlando.

Because of the activities and odd sleep times we had no idea where it would be...lucky for us my wonderful wife went through the many photos we had taken and narrowed our search to a 2 day window. We then spent six hours phoning, going to websites and emailing until finally we heard from a rest stop attendant that they had found puppy at there location. The individual had left a voicemail message...with my DD having only a few hours sleep we let her listen to the message....the look on her face as she realized he was found brought tears to the entire family!

We had to travel an extra day on our way home (we wanted to thank the individual in person) but we were able to get puppy back home.

Please post a picture of the missing blanket and I'm certain everyone here will be on the lookout for it or one 'amazingly' similar.

It's true that kids are resilient and that they can value by learning about loss but I never want anyone to experience the vision of heartbreak that we witnessed.

This years trip, we still have not decided whether or not to bring puppy....

Google "lost lovies" there are quite a few sites out there where you can try to get a replacement. My son has a small cow stuffed animal he is very attached to (he's 3.5 now) and about a year ago I posted on one of the sites and had two different people email me they had one so now I have 2 extras!! I just rotate them but it is nice to know that we have backups when needed. And if you have a picture of it that really helps but not necessary. Also, look on Ebay!

Good luck!

I have Manatee. I got him at Sea World when I was 9 years old. He is as his name says, a stuffed manatee. I'm almost 24 now, and I've only been without him for 3 miserable nights in all those years. When I try to lay down without him now, I just don't know what to do with my arm, I have to wrap it around Manatee.

I know how sad she must be to have lost Bet. Just keep hoping, Disney has a really good lost and found. I lost my pink Minnie Mouse watch there when I was a little girl and they mailed it to us about 2 months later. I'm sending happy thoughts! :grouphug:

Sorry to hear about the lost lovie.

My grand daughter (3.5 at the time)has a "doggie" that she has to have to go to sleep. Doggie came to Disney with us last September but he had to stay in the room. Mousekeeping did some really cute stuff with him when she serviced the room. We kind of looked forward to see what doggie and the dolls had been up to when we returned to the room every day.

Oh this makes me sad (and happy for such nice people willing to help!) My DD15 lost her beloved Pooh Bear when she was little. It wwas just on a neighborhood walk. We rewalked the whole neighborhood but it was gone. I have visions of a dog getting it for a shew toy. (Who else would want it, it too was well loved.) We replaced it and eventually she did come to love it as the original.

I really do hope you find it, but if you don't and the PP who was willing to make you one does, maybe you could tell her your DD that the Magic of Disney cleaned it up for her good as new.

And to the PP who offered, that made my night. As DH and I are watching the news and hearing so much evil, it is so good to know that there is also so much good out there. BRAVO for you!!! :littleangel:

My daughter lost her well loved Marie doll at Old Key West about 10 years ago. I ordered a new one as soon as we got home and told her that she had been found, cleaned and sent back with Dutchess.

If anyone is going to be travelling with a "lovey", be sure to pin a large fabric tag on it with your cell number. The dolls can wear a cute collar with a tag. We never got our original Marie back but DD still has the replacement.

How sad... my DD9 inherited the bedding set from her older sister as a baby. It had a blanket that was a picture of noah's ark. She named it "Baby" and to this day she still sleeps with Baby. Since she is now 9, she doesn't take Baby anywhere with her anymore - but I have sewed that thing back together more times then I can remember.

That is so sweet that someone volunteered to recreate it - but hopefully it will still turn up!

my heart breaks for you and your family..... we have 'Mr. Blanks", 'cuddle pups', and 'bearsy' ... I think I love them and their 'smell' as much as my kids do. Thinking of you!

do you have a photo of it you can send me?
my daughter was in the hospital for almost 2 years of her little life.
She had one blankie she literally wore out at age 2.
We had purchased it at a boutique and never saw another. Well I had made a post on a local board here at home and we received over 100 blankets. Some made to match (or almost) and some just wanting to make on for her.
Well we have them stored and I hated to part with them as it showed us
a community could send our poor baby so much love.
I have given a few out to those in search of their blankies.

I may have one that matches sort of. Sounds similar enough. But it has green in it. Pastel green, pink and white. You are welcome to it although no smells or dirt yet!

Wow, so sorry to hear of the lost blankie. I had one when I was a kid, and loved it to pieces. DD has a bear, and a piggy that she sleeps with every night, she's 15 now. DS also has a bear (that he stole from DD) and a "little monster." More often than not, they wind up stuffed in his shirt for the night. He's 6 now. A couple of weeks ago, he insisted on taking little monster with him on a sleep over. Somehow, little monster wound up going home with another boy. It took us a couple of days to track him down, and then a few more to get him back (a huge snow storm slowed things down a bit), and DS was not at all happy about going to bed without little monster.

We make certain that little monster doesn't go to Disney World with us though, he stays at home, and we take a few stuffed Disney Animals with us, which are much more easily replaced should they vanish somewhere.

i've known several ppl who have bought multiple of the same "stuffy" so whenever one was lost, in the wash etc. the child always had another, even though the child thought it was the same one

That is so heartwarming and sweet on so many levels. I Love DIS even more because of people like you!

Codimouse that is so sweet of you :hug::hug:
My little one is a bit high maintenance to say the least so I am going to try to recreate it as closely as possible. purple is a big part of "bet" and the particular yarn etc.

I am so sorry to hear your little one was in hospital for so long. my babies were in 2.5 months, and 2.5 weeks respectively and it was terrible... so i cannot imagine almost 2 years.

I think if you find a close replacement your child may not even know the difference.

I never knew that Cupie doll was the 2nd one, until I was living in my own house. I don't recall how I found out but I remember my mom or dad saying well the first one got all moldy as we let you take it in the bath and then water got trapped in it. I was shocked that they hadn't said anything til then. Cupie #2 was kept on a shelf when I was older living at home with my parents. Cupie #2 is now in the spare bedroom at my house where my niece's play with her.

I wish I would have had these labels when DS left his beloved "nite nite" behind at the beach last summer.

Oliver's Labels (google it) has kids labels that you can iron on or just press on in various sizes for clothing, loveys or whatever. Each label has child's name, phone number optional and then a little number on the side, like a tracking number. It says "if found please go to ______ and type in this number. "The company will contact you if your lost item is found.

To the OP: I hope Bet finds her way home. I know how devastating the loss of a "loved" one can be.

My nephew is a perfect example of this. He has a "night night boat" that went with his original bedding set from his crib. It is a throw pillow with a boat on it. We have went through about 3 of these things. The 3rd one is getting quite "loved" right now and might need to be replaced soon.

This is the sweetest thread I have seen in a LONG time!

I can relate - my son has a pillow that he calls - Pillow:thumbsup2 It is a regular old pillow he found and after 6 years - it is a mess. He gets mad at me when I wash it b/c then it doesn't smell right. What he really loves about Pillow is on the corner - the thread that hangs off the edge from sewing the pillow together. He holds it between his thumb and forefinger and runs it back and forth - he calls this painting and has since he could talk. One day he started SCREAMING :scared1::scared1::scared1: and then uncontrollable sobbing. The kind of scream that I was sure meant we were headed to the ER. Turns out the paint broke off Pillow. I calmed him down but wasn't sure what to do - he asked to call my mom b/c she can fix everything. So we called her and she cried with him and then gave me a lecture that I was going to have to find a way to sew the paint back on. So surgery for pillow it was. Luckily he made it through surgery and the paint is secure - for now. This might have been the most traumatic thing my DS has gone through - including staples in his head - so I can't imagine how the OP must feel.

Hugs to your DD that you find a solution soon!!

I have gone through this whole thread and after wiping my tears I have to chime in.

First off, to the OP, I am so sorry about Bet. I pray for her safe return and for your DD's peace of mind. I can only imagine that on top of being sad for herself, she is afraid for Bet to.

Second, I love the DIS and the wonderful people who are on it!!! You guys made my day with the generous offers to either re-create or somehow replace Bet for this child. As the quote goes," God walks among us." You are all truly amazing people. Even just the out pouring of support is, I am sure, such a help to the OP. To know you are not alone.

I would like to add my little bit in. My DD, now 7, has Teddy. I found Teddy at a store in a mall when DD was two. She had not formed an attachment to any of her stuffies etc,, but when I saw Teddy, I knew she would love him. I should have tried to get another, but I didn't. Teddy was on display in a window for a clothing store. He was not for sale in the store and they only had a few one hand for the displays. I begged them to sell me one, but they couldn't because Teddy did not have a price, let alone a tag or sku number they could put in the system. Somehow, the wonderful store manage over heard my conversation and decided they could work it out. They sold me Teddy for five dollars and it was the best five I have ever spent!!

Teddy is very well loved and has been washed many times. He is very lumpy and kind of blah in the looks department now, but DD would rather die than lose him. The one time he was left back at Nana's, my DD nearly lost her mind. My parents live a few hours drive away so they kindly offered to mail him. I said no, just in case the mail got lost. So my wonderful dad drove several hours to bring Teddy home. He is now "the best Papa that ever lived" according to my DD.

Thanks for letting me share my happy ending story. I am praying for Bet's safe return.

Suz
