Me – 32 year-old dad, planner, photographer, etc.
DW – 3* year-old wife and mom (I don’t tell her age, but she’s older than me!)
DS – 6 year-old just finished kindergarten son who thinks he knows it all
DD – 3.5 year-old daughter who thinks she’s 13 and acts like it most days!

Day 1 - June 1st
My dad dropped the four of us off at Ellington Field for our 7:30 a.m. commuter flight to Houston Intercontinental. We flew Continental nonstop from there to Orlando arriving around 2 pm EDT. This was the kids’ first trip on a plane, and they absolutely loved it. I highly recommend a product I bought for DD and DS’s ears called “Earplanes”. They worked great. Anyway, Tiffany Towncar met us in baggage claim and helped with the bags. A few minutes later we were on our way to the Wilderness Lodge.

We arrived shortly after 3 p.m. at the lodge and there was no line for check-in! After maybe 10 minutes we had our room, keys/ultimate park hoppers, and Fantasmic dinner package reservations for later in the week. We were in room 5082, which is a woods view room with bunk beds directly over Whispering Canyon Café. We found out later it had an excellent view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks, even if it was a bit loud from the lobby and restaurant.

After the luggage arrived from bell services, we were off! We had decided to go to MGM and catch the Stars & Motorcars parade. We walked around for a few minutes and found a spot on the curb near the intersection of Hollywood and Sunset to camp out at until the parade started. This is an awesome parade! The kids loved it and my DD was throwing kisses to all the characters, who usually threw them right back to her. This was a great way to start the trip for the kids. It didn’t require much walking and let them see lots of characters the first day. After the parade we decided to go back to the hotel to get dinner and go to bed at a decent hour. We ended up eating at Whispering Canyon around 7 p.m. without a PS and only waited about 10-15 minutes for a table. The food was good, but not great. DW and I shared a salad and the rotisserie chicken. (We’ve both been on weight watchers for 7 weeks and didn’t want to totally blow it on this trip!) Then it was back to the room and in bed about 9:30 p.m. I heard the fireworks about 10pm and woke up my wife to watch them out the window. Tomorrow is Magic Kingdom!

A few pictures from day #1

I think I shot about 40-50 pics of this parade! These are just some samples!

Looks like you were there with puffkin and me (see our trip reports, too). I look forward to seeing how many times we were in the same places at the same times. Sounds like a good first day.

Sounds like a good first day, thanks for posting we are going with our "knows it ALL" 3.5 DD in October so I'll be following your tips.

PS What are Earpanes? are they for the pressure? Where can I get them?

are earplugs that you can buy at Walgreens or Eckerds. They come in both children and adult sizes. They work by having a valve in them that regulates how fast the pressure changes in your ear. The kids' had no problems with their ears at all. Not a single complaint!

Your trip report almost made me cry! I know it's silly, but when I read "Tomorrow is Magic Kingdom", it brought back so many memories of my past trips with my 5 year old DS (He just finished kindergarten, too! ) Disney is such a magical place. Can't wait to hear more about the WL. We are staying there for the first time in August!

Thanks for the report!:D

Another avid earplanes user....for me!!
I have terrible ear problems on planes and these work wonderfully!!
Besides most discount/drug stores, they usually carry them at the airport shops.

Sounds like you are off to a wonderful start on your trip! Thank you for sharing :D

Love your trip report and nxiously awaiting more. Your photos, by the way, take my breath away!

Do you mind me asking what digital type you have? The resolution is just amazing!

You've truly captured the moments and made our family even more eager for our August stay at WL!

Thanks! And pixiedust blessings upon you all!

I use a Minolta Dimage7 digital camera. It is 5 megapixel resolution and has a 28-200 mm optical zoom lens. The disney pictures you are seeing on the pbase link have been downsized A LOT to make them smaller. The resolution on the Disney images I've posted is roughly 25-33% of the original image size/resolution. If you look HERE you can see a few images at full resolution. They are large, so they will take some time to download unless you have broadband.

I've been trying to get some time to write Day 4, but I haven't had time yet, sorry! LOL

Thanks for sharing your GREAT pics!
Your DKs are just precious!

Looking forward to more reports!

Thanks for posting:)

Wonderful report and pics, too. Can't wait to read more. :D

I see that we were down there at approximately the same time. Great pictures.

BTW, glad to hear that the earplanes worked for your kids. I followed the directions carefully--but my dd got more relief from sipping on a cup of water and by chewing gum. Go figure.
