My kids are in adult shoes!!

I feel your pain. I don't even remember now when my son last wore kids' sizes... 4th grade, maybe? He was young enough that some of his friends still had shoes with lights in the heels and we were buying men's sizes. He's 15 now and in a men's 12 wide, and still going through a size a year at least... Which is painful around this time of year when I'm shelling out ~$100 for football cleats on top of new everyday school shoes.

At what size do kids shoe sizes end for girls? DD14 wears a 4 or 4.5 kids, which is the same as a 6 or 6.5 womens. I try to buy her kids shoes whenever possible because they're cheaper (especially for expensive brands like Uggs). I'm wondering how much longer I can do this. I've never paid attention to what the highest kids size is.

I feel ya! My DD10 is getting into running. She wears a women's size 7-7.5 so kids running shoes are no longer an option. Fortunately, I found a Saucony model that works for her and they were on sale last week at Dick's for $40. She is lanky and all legs. She's already 5'2" and according to her pediatrician, she is "projected" to be 6' when she reaches adulthood:scared1:. (She was 36" at age 2 which is supposedly the age when you are 1/2 of your adult height.) It's really odd because DH and I are both 5'7". With a build like that, I want to make sure that she is in good, quality shoes so that she doesn't develop knee, hip or back problems when she hits her growth spurt.

My oldeset is 14 and is running cross country for high school. He needs 2 pr of good tunning shoes to alternate, plus running cleats. He has already had knee surgery and other knee and heel problems from huge growth spurts. He sees an orthopedic doctor regularly now. My husband used to manage a Shoe Carnival, so because of his knowledge and the recommendation of the orthopedic dr. we will never buy cheap shoes for the kids. It can hurt them for the rest of their lives orthopedically. (OK, that's a bit of a lie, dress shoes that are worn once or twice are bought cheap.)
His running shoes were fitted to him and 2 pair were about $250, and the cleats were clearanced and we had a coupon, and they were $50 after sales. He is growing so much that his shoes have only been lasting 3-4 months. Talk about sticker shock!!:scared1:
My youngest found shoes that were $90. We are going broke on shoes!

I feel your pain. My DS just turned 14 and is in a men's 12. DS 16 wears men's 11. It broke my heart when DS 14 said the kids at school made fun of him because he said proudly he got his shoes from the clearance rack. Mind you his shoes were still 50$ and a name brand. But these kids parents are buying them $150 sneakers. Guess they don't mind paying it. we make a very good living and I just can't see paying that for a young teens shoes.

good luck OP!

Check some of the more popular online shoe stores like Zappos/6pm. Many carry extended sizes in youth shoes. I believe Payless does too. I recently bought DD 12 who wears an 8 in Women's and DD 10 who wears a 7 in Women's youth size (6 and 5) New Balance and Nike running shoes at 6pm.com. Much less expensive than the Women's sizes.

If he's only wearing them 3 or 4 times a year (and based upon what he's wearing them for I'm betting he's not wearing them for more than a few hours at a time) I'd definitely hit Savers or St. Vincent or Salvation Army or Goodwill or... Around here all those stores get bunches men's dress shoes and sell them reasonably.
I agree. I usually don't buy used shoes because shoes mold to previous the wearer's feet but for something like a concert where my DD would wear the shoes only once or twice, I saved my money and went to the thrift shop.

I just bought my just turned 10 DD size 10 women's shoes for school. Her shoes starting school last year were an 8. She's already just over 5 feet tall, heading for 6 feet if she stays on her growth curve. She plays basketball and softball, so I have 2 pairs of additional shoes to buy each year. Last year she bought black BB shoes that had color swatches that you could change the color of the nike logo depending on her team colors, she instead covered the swatches with hot pink duct tape so they would be girly colored.

My DD9 now wears my shoe size (7). When did that happen?! It makes me so sad that she's growing up so fast!! We had an AWFUL time in the shoe store trying to find something that fit, until I finally realized that I could wear the kids size 6 so the sizes must be interchangeable.

Yes he hit it too. dS9 wears a men's 7. We found out for football camp. He's 5 ft exactly. Just bought back to school shoes that were not budget at all.

Just bought new athletic shoes for DD11 for gym/casual wear/upcoming Disney trip. Women's size 10. Poor girl inherited my big feet. Then DS15 just informed me that his toes are rubbing the end of his shoes & he needs bigger ones.....which means I will be on the hunt for men's size 15 wides!! EEK!! I was soooo hoping that he'd finally stopped matching his shoe size to his age! LOL Guess not. *sigh* His feet will now be 2 size bigger than DH's.

I love shoes, its my bad addiction, have a whole closet filled of my pretty shoes.

Love shopping for shoes, i can spend hours doing it.

But the min I hear dd 10 needs new shoes panic dread are the words running thru my mind. Oh the drama nothing ever fits, why can't I find sparkly shoes in woman sizes, etc etc Its an hour or two of pure torture. Every six months, 4 hours a year if im lucky.

The evil deed is done and yes we got several pairs, so I don't have to do it again for while. plz god don't let her feet grow for at least 6 months.

I am in the same situation as you are with my daughter. She loves the cute girl shoes but they don't fit her. I have found that Justice Clothing Store sells shoes in bigger sizes. My daughter wears a ladies size 8 and their shoes fit her. Good luck.

If you think Nikes are bad, try buying dance shoes! A set of shoes(5 different shoes) for DD runs about $400, and there is no buying on sale. They cost what they cost, within about a 10% range. They HAVE to fit properly in order for them not to end up injured, and some years we end up buying 2 sets due to growth. Cheer shoes run about $80 a pair, and its the same deal so spend about $1000 a year on shoes! Next year when she starts pointe classes, that will go up as they go through 3-4 pair of pointe shoes a year.

I had to laugh when I saw this thread title. My 11 year old dd, who was in a youth 5 at the beginning of the spring is now wearing an adult size 7-7.5. I took her shopping today and my jaw almost hit the floor. She is growing so fast!

Oh wow! I guess I'll stop trying to get them interested in sports! :rotfl2:

DD10 was a size 4 (girls) last school year, She is now in a women's 7!

I have been prepping for this dreadful feeling as DS6 is currently buying youth size 4.5...I can't believe his next shoes will size him out of kids!!! Hugs to all f you that are already there! I like the tip to check 6pm and zappos for extended youth sizes!

Famous footwear if you have one near you found Nike on clearance and you can use the blog plus 20 off I was in shock $14 per pair we are ready for school!!!

Ty try that but she wears 9.5 to 10 in womans.

Well, the bright side is that their feet are getting closer to being full grown. Then they can actually wear shoes until they wear out, rather than when they outgrow them. It killed me to give away perfectly good shoes just because they were too small!

This! My DD10 wears a size 8 and on the bright side, I've been wearing a size 10 since the 6th grade, so I'm thinking in another year or two, her foot will be maxed out (hopefully) and we'll be wearing the same size (not sure if that's good or bad, but it can only help right :confused3)? :goodvibes

I hear ya. I almost fell over in shock when we went from kids to adult tap shoes. The price doubled. $75 for a pair of tap shoes that I'm lucky to get through the dance year in KILLS me! On the bright side though, her ballet shoes are stretched out enough to at least get this season started in and her dance school had mistakenly ordered tan jazz shoes and the company would not take them back, so I got her a pair of those for $10 for classes. I'll have to get black come recital time, but that's months away at this point :)
