My kid hates pictures with characters! Help please!

Before and during every vacation I remind everybody (myself included!) that this is a FAMILY vacation, and different people want to do different things. Since we are a family, we all do things with a smile on our faces, so when it is your turn to get exactly what you want, you won't have a bunch of grumps around you ruining your fun.

It works, because if one of them pulls the "idon'twannas" out, I remind them how much I dislike {blank} or how their sibling hates {blank} or how nobody else likes riding {blank}. Then I offer them the choice to sit out the ride/show, and give up their next choice of activities.

So far so good...

Thanks everyone. Based on some of the replies I've seen here though, I just want to reiterate that I specifically said I don't want to force him. We've tried the "I'll have my picture taken if you will" bit and that doesn't work. I will try to have him take my picture, and if that doesn't work I'll try what PattiPB suggested. Thanks again!

Our last trip at Disney, DS(now almost 7) wasn't really interested in the characters. He didn't want to wait in the lines, he wasn't enthusiastic about getting his picture taken...to him, it was "boring." However, DD4 LOVED meeting the characters. She didn't care how long she had to wait, she loved getting autographs and she took plenty of pictures. Then when I got my roll of film developed, lo and behold, there were way more pictures of DD. DS was like, "Why are there no pictures of me??" He was also upset that DD had so many more signatures than he did. My children are very competitive and there isn't much a little family competition can't solve. I know next time, if I say to DS that we are having a game to see how many signatures everyone can get and whoever gets the most wins, he will be more into the characters.

Just remember that you want 1) pictures of your kids, and 2) pictures of the characters. Just because they're in different pictures shouldn't matter. If your son said he wanted a picture of you on every ride, would he get that?

If he does not want to do it, I would not ask him to or make him feel like he is obligated because that is what mom wants. There are so many other things in WDW to take pictures of besides characters.

Why not just have one of the Photographers that stand on main street take your picture and add the characters in yourself on the website. They have lots of things to add to pictures. Then there is no stress. Perhaps have your child pick out the character they would like most.

When I went to WDW last June, with just my 9 yr old, he begged me.... MOM, NO CHARACTERS!
We would see Mickey, Goofy, Tigger, and he would walk the other way!

I had thought that the wonderful pics of him at 2 and 5 yrs old would have to do......

Then, our last full day, we had dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern. We picked it for the menu - but I did tell him the characters would be there. It was great, he got "caught up" in the moment. He loved that Chip and Dale, Pluto, Goofy and Minnie came to his table. He had one on one time.. without being on display!

I think the issue with him.... was that he didnt want the other people waiting in line seeing him being awkward with the characters. He just enjoyed the quiet interaction without an audience. Does that make sense?
