My IRS Rebate Check Arrived!!!!!!!

We got our letter too. The refund is for any child that is on your tax return that was born after 1986.

I just checked the IRS website today for a friend, and it states: If your child was born AFTER December 31, 1986- you qualify for a refund depending on what was claimed for the tax year 2002.

Okay, not exactly..... but the big point they were making was that no child born before January 1, 1987 would be considered for 'child tax credit rebate' qualification.

The IRS said the child had to be under 17 in the year 2002 but if you go by there date, after December 31, 1986 this doesn't work out. My son was 16 the whole year of 2002 but he was born August 19, 1986 and they say he doesn't qualify. Can anyone explain this to me? He doesn't turn 17 till next month.

This rebate check is actually an advance on the child tax credit ($1000 instead of $600) we will be taking in 2003 when we do our taxes. So when you do next years taxes he will be too old. They didn't want people to wait until April to see the extra money so they are doing the rebate now to help the economy.

I know this whole thing is so confusing and people who don't pay taxes don't understand why they are not getting a check either. I think that when they finally decided on doing this it should have been explained so much better.

It is not a refund for child care it is a credit that you may have gotten at the end of your returned called the child tax credit you can go to www.irs.gov and check and see if you recieve it and it will tell you when your check will be mailed if you are recieving it!

You will get $400 per child under the age of 17.

How long is it taking for the checks to arrive? I'm just wondering if it's a few days from the mailing date, or closer to a week.

We got our check for $1600 and the next day the balance on the Florida rental house needed to be mailed out...$1300 (for 2 weeks). Easy come easy go! But when we made the plans for this trip we did not know about the tax check so it's almost like getting the house and gas money for the trip for free. YES!

I got a letter last week and the website said my check was mailed last Friday. I have not received the check yet!! Has anyone else's taken longer? I know the others in my area received theirs on Tuesday.

My neighbor's was mailed this past Friday. I'm waiting to see if she gets it today. That way I can figure when mine will come (mine is being mailed the 8th - the day we leave!)
