Hi! Cute invites! But you really aren't supposed to post soliciting business for anyone on the DIS. You could get points for it from the moderators. Just an FYI because the Mods on this board watch pretty closely and usually catch things like this. Just don't want you to get in trouble :)

all i can see is this .
what is it??

She took out the info because it was against DIS guidelines [to have info about selling]. She had some photos of her wedding invites that someone had made for her.

OP I'm sure you can put the photos back up just take out the info about how to buy them. They were great looking!

Yeah I'm going to put them back up :)

I was just trying to help out a fellow bride but I guess thats not possible.... :(

I'm sorry to anyone who got disgruntled over the arguable solicitation. But I just wanted to make a comment about the situation (unless this post gets removed too). When I first discovered the disboard I thought it was great. There were so many pieces of information that I found helped me plan my wedding. From money saving tips, good recommendations, ideas, etc. People raved about Randy, so I booked Randy. People spoke about how great charming events was, so I booked Emily too. People posted links to websites to buy Disney wedding supplies. And yes, I have even seen multiple postings about who/where to buy invitations from. A Disney wedding can get expensive and I think one of the biggest reasons people come to this board is to get money saving advice. Without this board people wouldn't get the recommendations to use people other than Disney that have great services for usually less money. If you go to Disney and ask about invitations they recommend Impressions. I have heard a lot of people don't have great reviews. When people want custom invites they should have more options than that.

When Marcy and I first spoke she was bummed that she found invitations she loved but couldn't afford them. I being a graphic designer, said "hey I can help you out." I love these kind of projects, and I was helping a fellow friend on the disboards. It was a great situation. Marcy got the invitations she loved and wanted to share her experience so other Disney brides could possibly benefit. I guess the unfortunate thing was that she mentioned I was a disboard member. Maybe if she just posted a weblink or something no one would have noticed. But why is it ok to post recommendations about some people and then wrong for her to post a recommendation about me? If anything I think it is a shame that with me being a part of this community that the idea isn't supported even more than some stranger doing the same thing.

I guess it was stupid to think "maybe I should give a discount to Disney brides because I am one myself and it could be fun to keep working on disney stuff even when my wedding is over". I don't need to be here to find work. I am on the disboards because I am planning my wedding. I did not come here to purposely market myself. But if there are people happy with my work they should be able to say so. I just think it is sad that there might be disbrides that could have benefited from this post, that are looking for a great custom invitation at a great price, who aren't allowed to know about it. Because I know when I was looking for certain services/products I sure benefited from other people's experiences. And it's not fair to enforce rules for certain posts and not others.

Amen, Julie ;) I'll talk to you this weekend!

I know how you feel. :rolleyes1

Hey girls I'm not arguing the fact that its not fair. But that's the point! DisneyDork happens to be a dear friend and I wish I could shout from the rooftop about her beautiful things she makes, but under DIS guidelines you can't advertise here for free. DreamsUnlimited, TourGuideMike, and others probley wouldn't be too happy about it. They pay for advertising spots. Unfortunately that how the DIS rules are written up! Doesn't mean you can't share thebeautiful invitations and who made them for you. Sometime its all in how you word things ;)

Yargh and blargh. How many people bought gift baskets from feralpeg (a disboard member) based on recommendations on these boards, back in the day (or maybe they still do, I haven't looked into it in a while).

I suppose things have changed.

I think it's nice that we look out for each other.

Hi all - first - the moderators just wanted to clarify the rules for a moment. Here is the official DIS position.

5. ADVERTISING: The advertisers/sponsors who you see on the DIS are carefully chosen. While we welcome discussion of them as well as other businesses that you have information or questions about, if its determined that you are using the DIS to promote a commercial venture, you will lose your posting privileges. In addition, links to the company's website will be blocked. Also note that we do not want the boards to be used for solicitations or for requesting referrals.

Second, M&M126 - we are so glad that you posted your invitations as they are gorgeous. We want you to be able to share, and if someone asks you who did your invites we love for you to give a review. The problem is that we are really close to the grey area with this thread. I want us all to be clear. Giving a vendor review is acceptable. Saying to contact someone is considered a grey area. For example I know that Randy's name has been brought up. If someone asked about a photographer I would gladly recommend Randy because I personally used him. I am not directing anyone in that manner, just giving my experience. I know that this is a challenging clause in the rules. But let us just keep in mind that we are all trying for the same thing, where we can share information to have the most beautiful wedding possible.

On that note, I am going to close this thread. If anyone has any further concerns, please feel free to PM the moderators.
