My idea for ABC Sitcom Crossover TV Special

To avoid confusion, this post is just about an idea I would give to ABC if the company accepted ideas from its fans.

ABC not long ago presented a crossover TV special that involved the characters from the medical dramas Grey's Atanomy and Private Practice. It inspired me to think that it would be brilliant if the network produced a crossover event of some or all of its sitcoms: Modern Family, Cougar Town, The Middle, Happy Endings, Last Man Standing, Suburgatory, and Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23. The characters from from each of those shows would meet each other and get tangled up into a series of zany hysterical events. I'm not a fan of the sitcoms but since they seem to be a scream, creating a crossover special would be a huge success for ABC and a huge hit to all the fans who watch the sitcoms.

Networks don't take ideas from fans, period. In fact, your posting this here could pretty much guarantee it will never happen, since if they did do such a thing, you could then sue them for having used your idea without compensating you.

Anyways, the reason Greys and Practice cross over is because Practice is a spin-off of Greys. They've done it a number of times.

Beyond that, crossovers are rare. TV shows on the same network are made by a variety of studios. The network is just the licensee. Although it is possible for the network to leverage to create a crossover, it isn't likely, as studios don't want to cross-promote other studios' productions.

Crossovers are far more likely with spinoffs, since they are usually produced by the same studio, and are already established to be in the same "universe".

Sorry, I might have confused you. I already know that networks such as ABC wouldn't accept ideas from other people. What I meant by giving an idea to a company if it accepted one from an ordinary person is just to share it and discuss it to DIS bloggers and wheter they would yay or nay it.

Now I never knew before that TV shows are only made by studios and that the host network is just the licensee. However, if it were possible at all to create a crossover special with ABC's sticoms would you say yay or nay?

Considering I don't watch any of them, my opinion doesn't matter. :)

In general, I think it would be difficult anyways as the styles of various shows can differ significantly, and trying to incorporate one into another can just be awkward. Some things work for a single camera comedy like Modern Family, but don't work for a typical three-camera setup like most sitcoms.
