My DH who is sooooooo afraid of needles, just returned from donating blood (again.) He's been doing this since the summer of 2003 when my Mom was in dire need of blood every few days. She suffered from Bone Marrow Cancer. It was then that my DH vowed to donate blood as often as he could. There were several times where there was no blood available & my Mom had to wait ~ & luckily it would arrive just in the nick of time. He does it in memory of my Mom & he calms his fear just by thinking of her & how he was inspired by my Mom's courage during her battle with cancer.

Now, am I married to the most compassionate & caring man on earth or what? :goodvibes

BTW, he still gets nervous when he has to go for blood draws or if he needs a shot from the Doc! ;)

If you can, please donate blood as often as you can. All types of blood is needed but especially 0- because that is the universal blood & anyone can take that blood type if their's is not available.

Great message and yes your DH is a hero :cheer2:

I donated regularly when we lived in Seattle, the blood bank would come to my building on a regular schedule and I would be sure to go whenever I was eligible. I am having a harder time of it down here because I work in such a small office (thus no blood drives) and it would be difficult to get to the blood bank for me. However, I know they do have drives sometimes at the mall near me and I try to watch for them. So far, they haven't been there when I was in town or able to go but I will keep watching and I hope I can get on a donation schedule here again soon.

Giving blood is such an important thing to do and an easy one. :thumbsup2

That's awesome! What a good man you have! :thumbsup2 I've always wanted to donate blood, but I'm unable to.

:thumbsup2 :cheer2: Thumbs up and cheers for your DH for doing such a great and brave thing.

He definitely is a hero. I donated for the first time a couple of months ago as my New Year's resolution. I was absolutely petrified. The folks at the blood drive were so understanding and stayed with me the whole time. It wasn't nearly as bad as I made it out to be in my mind. I'm going again on April 4. Please, if you've never donated, give it a shot. It's really not so bad. :thumbsup2

I think that is true for alot of first timers. They get really freaked out and there is no need to be. Try it once and if you really don't think you can do it again, then don't. But at least try it if you are able to.
