Hi all!
We are going to DLR in June, and my hubby is freaked out because he is like 6-2 and 350 and worried... will he have a problem on stuff like Indy, Matterhorn and Space??? Any help would be great!

Well, on our last Disney trip, DH was about 340, and he's only 5'10" so the pounds probably look bigger on him than on your taller hubby.

He could ride everything, but sometimes it was a bit interesting sitting next to him wiht a lap bar. I didn't really feel that secure, and I, sadly, was not that tiny either!

It also has to do with where he holds his weight. DH looks like a sumo wrestler, with very muscular thighs, and that added to the lap-bar issue, because if he had little chicken legs but a bigger belly, he could have put the lap-bar down further. As it was, it had to stop where his legs started. But a smaller-legged bigger-bellied person would have a less-cramped, perhaps, time.

But anyway, DH went on everything he wanted to.

He just told me that the most uncomfortable ride was Dumbo, but we did have three of us in there. ON the other hand, I was tens of pounds smaller on THAT trip (see avatar for my in-retrospect-perfectly-acceptable size then), and DS was only 1 at the time.

And he says he didin't like how he felt on Indy.

But still, he went on everything he wanted to go on. Which was almost everything (except Splash, b/c I was the only one who wanted to do that, so DH and DS went on Pooh three times in a row).

Disneyland is very size friendly. I have seen people probably quite a bit larger than your husband fit on those rides just fine. There are some, like the Matterhorn where he will probably be more comfortable riding alone, heck for his height more than his weight. I am pooh sized too, and used to be moreso. I remember my first trip to Disneyland being an absolute nervous wreck worrying I wouldn't fit onto anything. Thankfully it didn't happen and I think your husband will be just fine.

A couple I will mention are: Astro Orbitor. This was obviously designed for limber short people, its sort of awkward getting in and out since its up sort of high. I think he could fit fine, but getting in and out is not that fun. For basically anyone over about 100 pounds! The second one is the Orange Stinger. This one used to have a 200 pound limit posted. That limit is now not posted. Its a swing type seat you sit in and I think it was posted more as just a warning that not everyone will fit comfortably.

Those are the only two I can think of offhand. Have a great trip to Disneyland!

OT, but I just wanted to say I love your baby carrier!

Thanks! It's a cute little WAHM-made mei tai (her website is gone now, though), and the panel is a stripey green mesh, which made it just perfect for Disney. The straps were unpadded, though, and once he started getting heavier, I ended up with "hickies" on the fronts of my shoulders, b/c it dug in. But I loved it while he was small enough for it!

Once I figured out how to get him on my back, that was even better!

I did forget that DH never did go on the Orbitor ride. He and DS were heading over there, but ended up in the Buzz line. He was most pleased to do Buzz, they had great fun, but never did Orbitor.

Oh the Orbitor ride is famous for being the hardest to get in and out of unless you are a kid! And I know just how awful I look getting into it since once Dh was camcording my daughter and in the background, there I am attempting to get into my little rocket. That footage has long since been erased from that trip!

DH and I are both "pooh" size and we have riden eveything we wanted to. There are some rides, mostly the FL rides, that we don't sit side by side, we probably could have, but I didn't want to try then not fit and have to move. He talked me into trying it on Alice in Wonderland, and we fit fine there.

I am 6'2 about 265 and I didn't have many problems with the 265 part but I did have a few issues with the 6'2 part. My DS'S loved the Bug's land in DCA but most of the rides we rode there my legs were cramped. In DL I would say Autopia was another cramped ride but the rest of the rides I didn't have any problems at all.

Also OT, but I was wondering about using a Mei Tai at DL. My daughter is still pretty little at 13 mos-only 18 lbs or so, and I've made a mei tai I like a lot. Seems like it might be way too hot this summer, though.

Mei tais are wonderful!

The one I had has two or three layers of mesh as the "body" panel, and then just semi-heavy canvas as the straps. I *wish* the WAHM were still around, but she disappeared.

Here is another picture.

That day was early September of '05. It doesn't look hot because there was a COLD rain that morning (it was even overcast in San Diego our whole week there!), but it did get hot later in the day, but he was still happy in it. I don't know that I'd do a regular mei tai in FL, but as long as your mei tai isn't very heavily padded, and making sure that you guys are both dressed for the weather, I think even a "normal", non-mesh mei tai will work.

And, of course, if the kiddo is still nursing, LOTS of milk breaks, and if she's off milk, then lots of water and other liquids. :)

Something I found by accident while wearing him on my back, is that giving him a nice cold bottle of water could really help our boiling point, because he'll spill it down my back. :rotfl:

Tell him NOT to worry. Both hubby and I are plus size ( hubby's 6'1 and about 320 ) and we don't have a problem. I will say that Space Mountain in a little un comfy for me b/c theres not much leg room, and indiana jones hurts my thighs from all the thrashing back and forth, but really, disney is friendly when it comes to sizing ! The only ride I can say is close to being out is Autotopia..
Hvae fun ! :yay:

I am 6'4" and 265( and much older than most on this board) and the only problem I have had was Matterhorn which just beats the cr** out of my knees. I ride most rides where there are small cabins by myself..
He will have a great time.

Just had to tag this thread for my honey, who's 6'3, and it's his first time. The old myths about Matterhorn are starting to scare the bejeebuz outta him!

Thanks all for your reassurances!

both me & my dh are "pooh sized" as well ;) and we just got back from DL yesterday. We rode nearly everything with little effort. We rode matterhorn with our kids (5, 12) in front. We did nearly every ride except splash mountain (because it was closed) & ca screamin' because we're too chicken :lmao:
and we fit fine including rides with the kids. The only problem I had at all was some of the rides were very short on leg space, and a few like tower of terror, soarin, and star tours squished my hips a little, but nothing unbearable. Your hubby will be just fine on the rides :thumbsup2 Have a great trip!
