My husband didn't believe me about FP+

But the thing about FP+ is that Disney can predict pretty accurately how many people will not use their FP for any given ride, day, time of day, etc. I'm sure they overbook FP+ just like airlines overbook flights and hotels overbook rooms. (Of course they could do this with FP-, but part of the $2 billion was the infrastructure that will collect for those purposes.) There is nothing "lost" when someone doesn't use them--Disney is actually counting on them to leave without using them.
Opinions may vary, but I always thought overbooking was a sleazy practice. Admittedly, it's less disgusting for FP+ because Disney isn't making twice the money off one product, but if that is what they are doing (or have done in the past), it rubs me the wrong way.

I would rather we could say this: "I'm glad there are so many great FP+ attractions in Epcot. It loosens up availability."

Still hoping this is what the future holds.:thumbsup2

I'm just dealing with what is reality and for now, it's better to have tiers than not.

Personally, they could drop tiers tomorrow and it would be great for me. But for those who stay off site or book short vacations, it would not be so great.

It amazes me when people trash FP+ before they even give it a chance. I think it is an advantage to plan your vacation two months in advance. It is much better than wasting valuable vacation time planning it or standing in long lines.

I have given it several chances. I HATE IT! When my AP expires I am done for a while. Having to schedule two months in advance to ride things that haven't been updated in 10 plus years??? You can have ONE good ride in some parks and then you get a FP for "Indiana Jones"( which hasn't been full in decades so that's not really needed)

Exactly. Disney is expanding the FP+ "experience" and "opportunities" onto rides, activities and attractions that do not need them, conditioning many to think it is good thing. It's just like putting lipstick on a pig......you can pretty it up, but it's still a pig.

Overbooking is not sleazy if they have data to know what percentage they need to overbook by to fill capacity. It is actually beneficial for everyone. More people can book reservations because of this. And if they are off one day, it just will mean a little longer wait for people that day.

This is what my "little longer wait" looked like at TSMM on July 6... A relatively low crowd day. That is the FP+ return line that filled the interior queue, spilled out on to the sidewalk, and snaked its way out of Pixar Place. It was chaos. I'm thinking maybe they gave out too many FP that day. I thought it was worse than Sleazy. I heard quite a few other descriptors from the guests in line...but I can't print them.

That would be horrible. We were down earlier this month and went into DHS on three different days. Never was able to get a FP+ for TSMM at a reasonable time and the standby waits were always crazy long.

While overbooking Fastpasses rubs me the wrong way, I was specifically calling airlines sleazy, not Disney. Sorry for any confusion.

There are SEVEN dwarves, and "Sleazy" isn't one of them. ;)

:ssst: I will agree with the airline part, but I will stick with the term for the policy of overbooking Fastpasses too! :)

Wow.

I have no problem with someone trashing FP+ that has actually used the system. I realize it will not appeal to everyone. My complaint was with the OP who has not yet used the system and feels the need to start yet another "Let's bash FP+" thread.
It's very aggravating to have to plan our days 2 months in advance! We thought it was bad enough having to arrange ADRs so far ahead. How can this possibly be a relaxing vacation?! What are our chances of getting same-day FPs?

Aren't they using it if they are booking two months in advance? I think it starts at 11:00 pm Central Time for me 60 days out.

Right now they are. It's the only thing that makes getting the headliners for off site guests easier.

I doubt those who like having to choose 1 would like it better when they had none to choose from at all.
It might be okay if you have enough attractions to really choose from. Including Living With the Land and Eat to the Beat concerts in Tier 1 is simply a way to fluff how little there is to do that meets the definition of a headliner.

Illuminations is a whole different animal all together as the concept of FP for parades and fireworks just completely astounds me.

If any of this was about improving guest experiences the 2 Billion would have gone into attractions not rubber bracelets.
