A little back ground, we are DVC owners and have gone to WDW almost yearly since 2005. He really dislikes having to book FP's 60 days in advance. I don't mind it as much, but his thought is what if it rains the day I picked Animal Kingdom, then I am out of luck on the ROL show and Safari since he doesn't want to traipse around in rain anyhow.

As the conversation progressed, we thought gee, now that you can book right from your phone, Ipad, laptop, wouldn't it be great if you could wake up one morning, decide what park you wanted to visit, pick your FP's on your device and be off!

Sounds so easy and more friendly to a vacationer!

You CAN do that now. (Especially easy at DAK.)
But (and I guess this is what you mean) if you wait to book FP+ until the morning-of...
some of THE most popular attraction FP+ will already be taken.

However, for MANY of the attractions, you can still grab FP+ on the morning-of...
but, you likely won't be able to pick the TIMES you want.

All of that said...

IF the system were designed as you suggested (all FP+ made on a smart device on the "morning of")
The system would CRASH under the shear burden of EVERYONE trying to book ALL of their FP+ within (approx.) the same few hours.
And, imagine how LONG it might take to try to book and find 3 or so things that you want that day (with EVERY other guest booking at the same time.)
The likelihood of guests being able to book A&E meets, 7DMT, TSM, etc. on the day-of would be
a mess.
Messier than now.

lol you can do that.
and its pretty easy to get what you want when its only 2 people.
thanksgiving weekend i booked FP+ for my parents at 1am for the same day.
i did this the next day as well.
they went to MK one day and HS the next.
i was able to get them the mountains for MK and TSM, TOT, and frozen sing along for HS.

Or they could limit everyone to holding one Fastpass at a time. And then book as you go throughout the day.

Do you think the proposed DL model would work in WDW? Just curious. It would be a hybrid of what we have now.

If only WDW had more attractions none of this would matter much. DLR is rich with things to do.

I mentioned in another thread that big potential problem with DLR paperless FP would be at the beginning of the day. As soon as the gate opens and people walk into the park, they will be on their devices all at the same time trying to snag FPs for the popular rides. They system would be instantly overloaded.

Maybe, maybe not. They have so many more rides there, you don't necessarily need the FP. I spent 5 days there last summer and used legacy casually throughout the day.

WDW would have a bigger problem, but if everything wasn't booked up in advance and the great artificial demand was removed, maybe people would not all rush to their phones at 7:00 am. Especially if only 1 FP is booked at a time. People could relax that everything couldn't be taken right away.

We spent 4 days in the park this past holiday weekend. Booked all our 3 initial passes for each day about 45 days ahead. We used the first two days as scheduled, but as plans changed, we ended up deleting most everything we had scheduled for days 3 and 4, rescheduling for different parks. Definitely had to work it a little bit and take what was available in some cases, but for most of the rides we were able to find something that fit our schedule well enough. As long as you're not overly picky or expecting to get the most high-demand rides, you'll be alright. I'd go ahead and schedule your passes in advance, and then flex once there. At least that way you're likely to have the high-demand rides scheduled initially, if you can't get them last-minute.
