We are heading to the parks on Feb 27 for 4 days we are taking our 5 year old and 2 year old. Both my hubby and I are big. I am 5'3" and 230 size 20 and my hubby is 6'5" and about 335 size 42 (waist) he actually has short legs but a big torso and stomach is there some rides we should avoid? This is the first time we will be doing kids rides and I worried we may not fit and therefore cannot take our kids on some rides. Please any advice would be great.
Thank you!!

I haven't ever done DLR yet, we've done WDW and I was about 226 lbs at 5' 5". I was able to do all the rides no problem. I am worried about doing DLR though, I have since put on 30 lbs. I am in the process of losing weight because I worry about possibly not fitting on rides. I started my diet 3 weeks ago today and I am already down 9.4 lbs, my goal is 30 lbs by April 20th when we leave.

You will have very little problems. The only problems may be Mulholland Madness (in DCA) and Maliboomer (in DCA). Fortunately, I don't like either ride so it isn't a problem for me.

I weigh a good bit more than you and can ride any ride. My husband and I each ride with a kid and it leaves me ample room if I need it. It may be tighter if my husband and I were trying to ride together.

Mulholland Madness (in DCA) is an issue for me.

Jack

Well that makes me feel better, I should be totally fine when I lose all a bunch of weight up until the trip! :)

Mulholland Madness is going to very likely be a problem for your husband, and Maliboomer might be a no-go as well.

DH is 5'10", and he's been between 280 and upwards of 330 on various trips. He hasn't gotten to ride Maliboomer yet. The reason is because there's a strap that has to click, and it goes from the bottom of the U of the shoulder harness into the seat. DH is about 1/2" away from it clicking, but that's still a NO.

He has tried Mulholland Madness exactly once. He could not ride.

Let me state that the CMs have been nothing but WONDERFUL. They are kind and discreet and lovely.

The guests near us at MM...not so much. DH has sumo wrestler legs, just tree trunks of muscle. If he had skinny chicken legs, he could have squished them down, and then the bar could have gotten down far enough. But he couldn't squish his lovely legs, so he couldn't ride. And the people were...ugly.

(what was worse is that we took the trip while waiting on a diagnosis for him...he came home to find out that he has a pituitary tumor that causes his body to make prolactin, which men are NOT supposed to have, because it's a nursing mother hormone...which caused his emotions to be as sensitive as a nursing mother...which means that unkindness on the part of the park guests was...extremely unwelcome. especially because it's exactly the prolactin that has CAUSED quite a bit of the weight.)

Other rides are fine. Screamin' was fine because they don't have the strap that Maliboomer does, though the harness is about the same.

Astro Orbiter is tight; I would recommend going alone on that. editing...that was said before I noticed you have kids riding. DS loves AO, and I do not like spinning rides, but I end up going with him because it's just so awkward for DH getting out of the ride when he's riding with DS. So if you all go, you might want to get out as quickly as you can, so the child riding with DH can be helped out by you, without your husband having to try to get out with the child, if that makes any sense.

Especially for your tall husband, do NOT sit in the front seat for Pooh. That seat seems to have less leg room; sit in the middle or back row instead (which flies in the face of what your instinct would tell you).

If they seat you in the front of Splash or Pirates...be ready to be wet. My marathon-running skinny brother sat behind DH on Splash; they were in the first two seats...they were drenched to their undergarments. Thankfully for my brother, he was wearing clothes made of wicking material. Unfortunately for DH, he was wearing cotton, cotton, and more cotton. He was wet the rest of the day.

Your husband will likely NOT be able to take a kidlet on the "bumper car" ride in DCA...but you will. It's just a tight squeeze with longer legs, that's the main part...but it has a height requirement so your 2 year old might not hit the mark yet, which means you'll only have to take the 5 year old.

I definitely do NOT mean to make things sound all gloom and doom! The things that come to mind are the only things coming to mind. And most everything is fine.

But I would hate to NOT mention DH's experiences with Maliboomer and MM, and then have you angry with me. MM's line is *right there*, and everyone was watching DH get in and the whole experience...I don't think he'll ever ride it again, even once he hits a weight he likes better.

Oh, don't sit in the "cages" on Casey Jr. That's just craziness unless it's only your family. Sit in the seat 'cars'...just because it's more comfy and pleasant.

Lastly, do NOT be afraid to tell the CMs that you need two cars for something. The 3 of us split all the time. The CM asks how many, we'll say "2 and 1", and they know what that means. Two groups; one of 2, one of 1. Easy peasy. We could also say "group of 3, 2 rows please", but I prefer it like I said it first. :upsidedow

And remember that the CMs have been absolutely polite and kind.

I am 6' tall and a size 22 or so, and my husband is 6'3" and has a 42-44" waist, and we went with our 4 and 5 year old daughters (plus our 2 older sons). We had no problems on any of the rides that we went on, except the teacups. I read up here though beforehand and we avoided the couple of DCA rides mentioned above plus Astro Orbitor and Nemo. We had a great time, and didn't feel awkward or squished on anything else.

Mulholland has a 42" height requirement so the 2 yr old wont be able to ride anyways. And I agree with PP to avoid that one.

And Maliboomer has a 52" ht requirement so neither child will be able to ride.

As far as kiddie rides, most can accomodate 3 across (though not 3 adults) so you should have no problems riding 1 adult/1 child on them.

We visited DL two years ago and I was 290 lbs. and 5'8". I had read a lot on this board and figured I was good to go on every ride but Pooh Bear. (Ironically ... Pooh Sized and too big for the Pooh ride? Hee hee ...)

We never even tried it but I saw a friend's pics (she is as big as me) and she road it without trouble.

The ONLY ride I absolutely could not ride at the time was the Orange Stinger in CA. (The swing seats were obviously to narrow and there was a warning to not ride if you were over 200 lbs.) Nothing else was an issue for me whatsoever!!

Nemo was mildly difficult -- just squishy and I was thigh-to-thigh with the person beside me, unfortunately. But still doable.

And there are the ones mentioned above which I have not seen yet.

Bottom line is I wouldn't worry about it! I stressed about my size and if I could do ANYTHING but you'll be surprised at how easy it is! Enjoy!!

That just made my heart break a little bit. People are such jerks.

I am definately "Pooh Sized" and the big problem that I have is the darn turnstiles! Even on a ride I can make work, the turn stile gets me everytime....and yes, people are ugly. Little do they know that even someone who is thin today can join the Pooh ranks!

I just have to say. Before the DIS boards I had never heard of the term "Pooh-sized". I think it is one of the most fabulous terms I've ever heard. He's my all time favorite character.

I would just be a bit careful on rides with only one bar...like BTRR with the kiddos! I am like a size 14-16 and my sis is a 6 (I know stinker, right?!?! :)) Anyways, she kinda goes flying because the bar comes to only my size...I hope this makes sense! And for the life of me I can not think of other rides with only one bar...

bumbershoot- thanks for the information and I am so sorry that people were rude to your hubby that is just not right that makes me just sick how people can be mean like that, ugh!

It sounds like we will be OK I was not to worried about myself as much as I was about my hubby being so tall and with a little pooh size tummy. BTW I like that term very appropriate :)

Thanks again everyone I really appreciate it!!

I wanted to second the post for the one bar rides---my husband (he's 6'8", I have no idea how much he weighs but he is a large man) rode Gadgets with my oldest daughter and he was so stressed because the bar wasn't tight enough on her with him in there---he held onto her but it made him nervous. That was also a bad fit, but I think it was more a leg (so height issue) than size issue. My FIL also rode Gadget's and he is 6'5" and also large and it was a better fit.
Other than that, he could ride everything!
