Yikes! That is quite a project you have undertaken! Great job so far! Especially loving the faux tin ceiling! I've heard about it before but never seen it done!

Love the kitchen. We are about to embark on a major home reno as well.

We are planning on dark wood cabinets (slightly lighter than yours) with white quartz too. It looks beautiful. I have been struggling with a way to make our island contrast and thik I will steal your butcher block idea. Love the pattern.

What are you doing for a backsplash?
How do you hire Amish to do cabinets? I never heard of that.

We are very happy with the outcome of the cabinets. We wanted a thick butcher block island. We didn't just want a 2" think, we wanted bigger. We were told that it would cost $2,000 for that. We asked if he could build us a faux butcher block to look like it was that thick. He build the ends with full dimensional lumber and all the middle pieces are smaller. He took 2x2's that were 10 feet long and cut them to length and 45 degree cut the edges on both cuts. He essentially folded the wood so it looks like a 6" think board with the grain patter consistent with the top. Doing it this was was about $650.

We have a tile for the backsplash that we bought on close out at Home Depot. It is in a 12" x 12" sheet and looks like small tiles on it. It has white tile with some stainless steel tiles mixed in.

Are you familiar with Amish made furniture? We have a couple of Amish areas a few hours from where we live. We just stopped over and started the process, just like any other business would have done.

The cabinets alone from our Menards store were over $14,000. We paid under $13,000 thru the Amish builder. He was 8000 for the cabinets, 500 for the sink, 3200 for quartz, 650 for the butcher block island. Those prices also included solid wood, quiet close, all knobs and pulls and installed.

He has glass in one door that broke in shipping, a cabinet to install, and finish the crown at the top once all the cabinets are in. Then I can start the tile backsplash. Hopefully, I can have fully finished (Kitchen) picks by the end of next week.

I am on Long Island and I don't know of any Amish places. I will probably just go to a kitchen place. Great idea on the island, faking the thickness. I will be talking to the contractor about that. The pattern is beautiful.

DH & I did the same thing years ago - late 1800s house. At one point, we had a ladder as our stairs to get upstairs to our bedroom! We thought it was fun & enjoyed the entire process, even though we did a lot of the work!

Give us some figures for the house, if you don't mind sharing - you paid $?, will spend on renovations $?, & expect the value when finished to be about $?.

How many square feet?
How many bed & bath rooms?
Basement?
How big is the yard?

Sorry if I'm too nosey, but I just love houses, looking at houses, fixing up houses, old houses, everything about houses!

We went to the local library & researched the history of our old house (don't still live there). There were before & after maps of where the house wasn't & then was, & pictures of the town during the time period when our house was built - we framed some of these.

Also went to the County Recorder & traced the ownerships of the house (& even the houses around us to see if family members of the same name lived close to each other). Got a copy of the first ownership docs & framed them.

You might enjoy such history about your wonderful house.

Very nice! We're in the process of a kitchen redo - cabinets, counters, and backsplash. We hadn't planned on it at this point in time (although I've been mentally planning it from the time we moved in 16 years ago! ). We've glued drawers back together more times than I can count (particle board can't be nailed or screwed), and the last drawer had to be put back together with L brackets because it had been glued so many times. The deal breaker was when an upper cabinet's shelf could no longer stay on it's brackets because the box had warped so badly and the shelf did not sit properly .
