Kimmar, wow! What a difference from before to after.

Congratulations on your new home. I can't wait to see what else y'all are planning to do with the rest of the rooms. popcorn::

.....:scratchin .....my living room looks cluttered? :confused3

No that's not what I meant.

I think she meant her LR has the clutter, and yours looks like hers would if it didn't have the clu

Yes I did, except it's the Family Room. I was able to get an agreement that the living room is TV free for if we ever entertain and it's not a pool party.

Please tell me you have a bedroom now and aren't sleeping on the porch. :confused3

.....yes, we are FINALLY in our bedroom! :dancer:

Fantastic job! I know it's hard, but in the end you will be so happy. "Wood-like" had me dying. I thought I was reading a description of our house at first, but when you neglected to mention room after room of butt ugly wall paper four to seven layers deep, I knew you were not attempting to tell our story.

I'd also like to mention to everyone on the thread, it's not pink, it's mauve. In late 80's, early 90's it was the hot color to decorate with. I'm so snooty falutie expert on it because I helped a good friend remove many, many traces of it when she bought a tiny starter home as a single woman, who HATED the color, and wound up with a steal of a deal on a tiny bungalow because literally everything in the home was mauve. When I say everything, I mean it. All sinks and tub and tiles were reglazed AND even the faucets had been sprayed with some kind of decorator flecked paint in mauve. Absolutely the only thing in the entire home that was not mauve were primary color Sesame Street floor length drapes in one tiny bedroom -- that of course still had mauve carpet, walls, ceiling, window blinds and light fixture.

By the way, if you are still unhappy with the soot marks on your firebox in the fireplace, you can try first spraying with vinegar and seeing what will clean up. If that doesn't get the job done, try mixing Borax from the laundry aisle with some water to make a paste and scrub with a brush. It worked on my mid fifties builder's model home.
....thanks for the cleaning tip! :thumbsup2

Kimmar, I love it. Wow, what a great job they did! It looks entirely different and so very nice. The outside has a lot of curb appeal.

Very nice, thanks for sharing.

WOW what an amazing transformation so far. When you are finished, feel free to pop down under and give my house a face lift....you have done and awesome job, can't wait to see the rest of it.

....and now....my DS's room...

....formerly called 'The Smelly Room", his is the room located to the left. It had a pungent odor of, yes, I cannot lie, a combination of a 2-month used cat litter box and stale cigarette smoke [with a little pinch of cigar smell for good luck]. No matter what we did, we just couldn't eliminate that stench - and foul it was! My DH's business acquaintance who specializes in flooring advised him that we'd be better off just ripping up the old oak flooring because the smell would always linger, so we made the decision to rid ourselves of that nasty old planking and install new - which, by the way, wound up on the entire front half of the first floor of our home.

....the room behind the new beams (and yes, ANOTHER shade of pink, although more on the 'purple-y side' that we had to conquer...

See? It appears as a more 'traditional' pink here:

....and that corner [above] is the future home of my DS's ficus, which, of course, keeps with the AKL theme...

......you can clearly see above [via the ceiling] where the old closet used to be located (which was the closet to that far bedroom, or the 3rd bedroom)

....this door was to the hall linen closet, which has since been relocated to the end of the hall - a prudent move, if you ask me. The center area was formerly the closet to said Smelly Room, now a thing of the past. I'm sure you'll agree that, besides relocating/eliminating closets, it really opened up my DS's room quite a bit....and think, NO MORE SMELL!

....and this is the new location of his bedroom door - it was made caddy-cornered to make the room appear larger. The photo below shows the other side of his future door:

[notice the previously non-existent linen closet at the end of the hallway]

You can clearly see the vast improvement with the newly-installed sheetrock in his room:

...especially in his future closet [to the right] and his built-in desk [to the left]. the floors [below]

...are now installed and waiting for a permanent color - I love how my DH and DS eliminated the need for a saddle for the transitional areas, otherwise known as the doorways. (makes sweeping and mopping the floors so much easier!)

....since we had so much leftover paint for my DS's 'accent' wall [see below], my DH decided to use the spare paint on the interior of his closet.

....and, here are those doors, now installed, and:

That looks like a lot of work, but good job that you managed to get rid of the smell. I can't wait to see the finished result.

....it was pretty AWFUL. We had to keep the door closed at all times, with a rolled up towel covering the bottom crack of the door....:crazy2:

BTW, I updated the end-result photos on page 1....

Wowza, you guys are humming along! Looks very nice. I'm very happy to see your satisfaction about how things are turning out. Makes all the hard work worth it.
