my guide makes me not want to buy anymore

We did the tour the other day on our last day of vacation. Cynthia was our guide, and i found her to be OK, but in the end, she had another appt. and sorta pushed us out. I dont know if i'm too thrilled with her. Am I allowed to just call and request a specific guide? We are seriously considering buying so, I really want someone who knows what's going on, and is patient. TIA =)

Yes, just call and ask for the guide you want, then explain that you had another one but you want to switch to them. No big deal. For those who want a different guide and don't know a specific name, ask for a manager and then tell the manager that you want a new guide (and why).

Whether you are spending $10k or $40k, there is NO excusing an unprofessional, or an ignorant, or a dishonest, or an unresponsive, or an unethical guide. Expecting someone to do their job properly and treat you courteously is hardly "expecting too much".

I think everone just needs to relax. I dont believe alot of people understand sales at all do you realize how many different personalities these guides have to deal with. Not everyone gets along with everbody I dont even want to say there haveing a bad day. Alot of what i read on here to be as honest as I can most of the disney community has unrealistic expectations. When you read some of these posts i just shake my head at what some people expect for just spending a little bit of money. Give these guides a break. Oh no I have to use plastic cups oh my god the world is ending for example also i called my guide 5 minutes ago and he hasnt returned my call. get a grip let it go

Wow, that's a bit harsh, no?:confused3

Sorry if you feel its harsh but take your situation. She was busy and your penalizing her sales is a tough gig. Lets say she didnt have another appt and applied a little pressure for you to buy you would say she was pushy and rude . So in this instance she cant win. took you on the tour showed you all the numbers and now you want someone else to get the credit. Just doesnt seem right does it apply it to your job if you do the work and someone else gets credit i find it hard to believe you would be ok with that. Give her the sale if you dont like her afterwards request a new guide. I believe you are being a little harsh.

Our initial guide was so AWESOME! Never have I experienced anyone so willing to help and "guide" you with good, useful information. We had done our research, had the $$ on hand to make our purchase and she told us to
"think about it and call back!" Totally stunned the DH and I!!!! Long story short, we bought, she has since retired, but we've had no qualms with our new guide, he's pretty helpful if we need him, so we have no complaints.

I guess I really don't get whats so great with "great" guides. I mean, they should be providing all information and be as helpful as possible. This is thier JOB.:confused3 If one can't get in touch with their assigned guide (yes, they are assigned to you for life...or as long as they are employed) just get another one. All this hoopla about how they seemed to of shed some "light" or info that one what not aware of, well, they are supposed to do that. I just don't get this big "emotional" attachment to them.

That's 'cause you bought resale. ;)

I fully plan on giving her the sale, not once did it even cross my mind not to. I just saw the other guides with their people, and didnt get the same from her, wich struck me as odd. Will i keep her for LIFE? Eh, we'll see when time comes to deal with her again. I didnt know you could get another one was the point i was trying to make i guess.

I felt really bad about our guide situation. A few years ago, I spoke with J.M.-- I'll just use initials in case I shouldn't mention name(I have nothing bad to say about him--only reason I remember his name, is becuase I have a friend with the same name) when we originally thought about buying--- talked to him on the phone for a little while, but we decided not to buy. I felt a little pressured to buy that day because of an incentive that was ending within the next few days. A few years later, we were in Disney, decided to do the tour, and honestly I completely forgot about the first guide. The new guide (can't remember his name now) asked us if we had spoken to J.M. at one time-- and then of course I remembered, and said yes. He didn't bring it up again. We bought that day, 2nd guy said he would be our guide. Then three days later we got a call from J.M. saying he would be our guide (no problem with him, nice as all get out, but I felt bad that we spent hours with guide #2 ). I called the guide#2 to see if I can request to keep him, but he never returned my call. To this day, I still worry that he didn't get any credit for the sale--- and he spent hours with us on a Sunday. J.M. seems really nice, but I only spoke to him once on the phone.

We bought resale and didn't think we had a guide at first. We started getting phone calls "this is ***** from DVC. I'm your new guide. Call me back." We got one call a week for a month. The last one said "This is **** from Disney Vacation Club. You might as well call me back or I'll just keep calling". It was very odd indeed. When I did speak with him, he kept referring me to member services with my questions. He was nice enough when we finally connected but I doubt I'll ever speak to him again.

but now I have Nick Cotton and I am so happy. Never met him, but he couldn't be any nicer on the phone. He is such a sweet southern man and is so quick to return calls or follow-up with any questions I ask. He even called me to ask what I thought about BLT even though he knew I was doing a BCV add-on he just wanted to check on me. Now I know some of you are saying he was just looking to get me to buy BLT, but honestly he really wasn't asking that at all.

So for those of you unhappy with your guides - call back and ask for Nick Cotton!

Nick is awesome - he's our guide and he's as sweet and helpful as he can be! He's very knowledgeable about Disney, too and has a background working in other areas of the company (in industrial engineering, I think?). Having met him in person, I can tell you that his demeanor is totally authentic.

If you are going to ask everyone to relax, you should do the same. I agree with you that there are some people on here that may have higher than high expectations and complain too much. But at the same time, I think it is safe to say that there are also very many people that have valid gripes about salespeople who do a poor job. AND please don't preach to people about "Understanding sales." As a salesman for many years, I can tell you that it is a HUGE part of the job to adapt to different customers' personalities. OH, and I just love this next part...you say you "shake your head at what some people expect for just spending a little bit of money???????????" OK, so it is now clear that you are wealthy, but I am sure that most DVC members are not. You must have missed this in ALL of the posts that you have read, but people here are paying thousands (MAYBE EVEN TENS OF THOUSANDS) of dollars of their hard earned life savings, so their families can take nice vacations at fabulous destinations well into the future. I think you owe an apology to alot of people on this thread?

I like Larry Hope. We bought from him in '99 and have added on several time since. He doesn't call me, I call him, which is the way I like it. I usually leave a message and he calls me back that day or the next. Answers questions, not pushy at all..

I don't think the should be called "guides" They are sales people, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Our original guide was a woman, don't know her name. She never called us back after we talked to her the first time. We must have left 5 messages for her and we got tired of waiting ... maybe a month. Then we called and asked to be switched to somebody else and they did this for us. We haven't had any problem since. We toured in August with AKV model when our guide had a day off. He called and left a message for us at home and just said hi, noticed you toured. Call me if you have any questions. He generally leaves us alone but does return phone calls. that's the way we like it. :cool2:

Don't worry about your guide, go with resale. You save money, have great service and it should not be difficult to get the contract you want. We bought resale 3 days ago, and have already made it as far as ROFR.

This is not always true. Often when all things are said and done a resale ends up costing near as much or more per point than a direct buy from Disney. This is especially true on the smaller contracts where the price per point is really raised when closing costs are factored in.

Sometimes it may be beneficial to buy resale, like when you only need a very small amount of points and you are not already a member but you can't apply a blanket statement to all situations.

When we went on our tour in Sept.12 we got Nick Cotton also....this is a very pleasant person to deal with and a good sense of humor....never once did i feel presured to buy...his favorite line I think was "it's economics....Mickey get you either way...."My wife asked if we could see the 12person villa at SSR and he took us over to one.... I think we spent 21/2hrs with him..... We did take the info back to our resort and he said he would follow up with a phone call latter in the week which he did and we called him back 2 days later and said lets do it..... we signed our 200pt AKV deal on the 17th and we returned home on 19th and the 20th he called us at home just to thank us for buying DVC and to answer any questions we might have had...... I would recommend Nick to anyone

I called last week & left a message & again today. Nothing. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he had the long weekend off, but there was no message on his voicemail indicating he'd be out of the office. :confused3 I didn't expect it to be so hard to get info on adding on. I'll give it another day or 2, but then I'm going to call & ask to speak to someone else. Would someone mind PMing me the main # to call to speak to another guide? I only have his direct #. Thanks.

I believe you should be able to call the main MS number about getting a new guide.
