My guide called to offer me a small BWV add-on

I just got back from 3 days out of town at a conference. I had a pleasant surprise to find a message from my guide, offering me a 39-point add-on at BWV. I've been on the waiting list for a BWV add-on since January.

I'm gulping a little bit, because I just recently bought a new car. So the ol' finances are a little different than they were in January when I first went on the waiting list. :o

Naturally I HATE to turn down those precious BWV points. So I'm thinking that I could probably add on 25 points comfortably. But if I do that, what would become of the other 14 points? The minimum is 25 points for an add-on, right? So will my guide tell me that I have to take all 39 points or none of them, since another buyer could not just buy 14 of the points?

His message said that he's give me a couple days to call him back, since my secretary told him I'd be out of town through Friday. I'm thinking I should call him back tomorrow, so I don't lose the points to somebody else. But I want to be prepared with an answer in case he says I'd have to buy all 39 points.

Anyone have any idea what the policy is for this situation?

Thanks in advance!

H:D

Give your guide a call and don't worry about the other left over points. When OKW points just became available with our Use Year, I bought only 60 out of the 200 that were available. I would of bought more but we just added on at BCV 150. Go for the 25 if that is what you are comfortable with.

Could someone explain the waiting list for pts at sold out resorts? Who do I call? I want an add-on at OKW, and the resale agencies have not been a pleasant experience for me, as I have noted elsewhere on this board. Is the going rate $80, like it is for new pts? I don't suppose there is any chance of banked pts if you are buying direct from Disney, is there?:( I gather that buying an add-on this way is somewhat differrent than a resale, where you have to accept or reject the entire package?

Cruelladeville,

If you want to buy at OKW, call your guide and tell him to put you on the waiting list. They buy back some contracts because of various reasons (ROFR,divorces, deaths, dues not paid, etc).
The points will be offered to you at the current prices ($80). This may not be very quick for you. We have been on a waiting list for a small add-on at OKW(50-100) since January :( , and we were 3rd on the list 4 months ago. We have Sept use yr.Usually if DVC buys back a larger contract(say 250 pts) they can split it up between members that have the use yr that is being sold back.
In short just call your guide and keep your fingers crossed.;)

Thanks, AnnaS, for the reply. I decided to go ahead and call my guide and see what he says. I know that normally I can purchase whatever portion of the available points that I want (at least 25, of course). In this case, I'm not sure that I'll be allowed to leave 14 points that they cannot sell to somebody else because of the 25-pt. minimum for that other buyer.

Cruelladeville, if you want to go on a waiting list for a sold out resort, just call your guide and ask to be added to the waiting list for your particular use year. On these boards, some have said that their guides claim there is no such waiting list. Not true! Last year, my name also came up on the BWV waiting list, and I added on at that time. Now my name came up again, so obviously the mythical waiting list does exist. ;) The price per point is whatever points are being sold for at the time; in this case, $80. I haven't pursued the resale market because I've only wanted small add-ons each time (50 pts. or less), which don't seem to come up very often through resale. I don't know about banked pts. through Disney. Could be possible maybe, if the pts. are from a foreclosure or ROFR situation. But I don't know. Last year's BWV add-on came right at the start of a new use year for me, so I got that year's points as usual. I'll have to see about this one when I call. Anyway, give your guide a call and go on the waiting list if you are willing to be patient. Your name may never come up, but then again it might. I'm 2-for-2, which is pretty good! :D Good luck!

Travelbug,
When you call your rep, would you please post the answers to your questions so the rest of us can find out, too? I would also like to know if you are offered 39 pts, do you have the right to leave just 14 pts behind for someone else? Now that I know about the waiting list I will call my rep on Monday. Thanks!:p :p

I was wondering the same thing.....do the points come with a use-year....or since it's such a small amount does it automatically default to your current use year??

We're on the waiting list at BWV too, but we're in the process of moving to a bigger house so now is definately not an ideal time for us either. If my guide called with those leftover 14 points I just know I'd jump at it though. ;)

I was also told by my guide last year that there was no waiting list. After reading these boards and somewhere down the line, I was put on waiting list. I was in touch with my guide all year, re: BCV sales, NY approval, POA, etc. Be patient, I was on the waiting list for almost a year for my user year. I bought on July 1st, lucked out at $75.

From what I understand, the minimum add-on is 25. They would keep those 14 points and wait until they got another contract with that use year, then combine those with that contract to sell. As long as the total is above 25, they can do so. I don't remember who it was, but a few months back someone posted that they'd had a chance to purchase add on points from Disney but didn't want the whole lot, which was fine. They indicated Disney just kept the rest and offered them up or waited to combine them with other contracts later.

I think that was me that posted a few months back about not buying the whole allotment that was available. We purchased a 50 point add on a few months ago @ BWV's... There were something like 62 points available, but I only wanted 50... The other 12 points were thrown back into the September use year pool... Those points stay in that pool until Disney gets at least 25 points together to sell to the next person....

For anyone that wants to get on the waitlist, all you have to do is call your guide & ask to be added, we were on the waitlist for close to a year, September seems to be the slowest use year to get points into!!

I have a Dec. use year. As I understand it, your name goes on a wait list for your particular use year month. So I've been on the Dec. list, Chris1gill was on the Sept. list, etc.

I tried to call my guide, but his message said he wouldn't be back in the office until Sunday. So I can think through finances tonight and call him back tomorrow. I'm really battling myself on this one. I'm hesitating to buy even 25 more points, the more I think about it. So many other things I could and probably should do with that money. But on the other hand, I'd love to have those points for the next 40 years. What to do, what to do...

Will let you all know what I decide to do, and also what the deal is with those extra 14 points. (Although it sounds like Chris1gill knows the answer to that one. Thanks for the info, by the way!)

Wish me luck as I do battle with myself. I feel like a case of good twin, evil twin as the little voices whisper to me. Evil twin voice says, "Go ahead. Buy those points. It's only money..." Good twin voice says, "Do you think money grows on trees or something? Be sensible and save that money..." I've changed my mind about 100 times today.

Thanks again for all your replies! :D

Travelbug, I won't be of much help here, but we were definitely in the same boat, I got the call about 2 weeks after we splurged on a trip to Hawaii!!! I mean, between that & paying taxes my budget was broke, but I figured I'd been on that waitlist forever & I knew my name wouldn't come up again, so I went for it... After all, it is 40 years of vacations!!! Your vacations will last far longer than your new car by the way, so go for it!!

Well, I gulped a few more times and finally told my guide to go ahead and add on 25 pts. for me. You may have seen my other thread telling about it.

Here are the answers to the other questions I asked him:

(1)The other 14 pts. I'm not buying are not my problem. They stay in Disney's system.

(2)Even though I have a Dec. use year, I WILL get the 25 pts. from 2001. I can bank all of them, even though I'm at the 50% banking window. That's because I can bank up to half of my TOTAL points, including the new 25 I just bought. I'll only pay pro-rated dues for Aug.-Dec. So that was good news!

(3)I considered passing this add-on by, because the timing is unfortunate with other financial issues. So I asked what would happen if I passed this one by. Could I stay at the top of the list and wait for the next chance? The answer was no. They'd pass me by, and I'd have to "start over" putting my name on the waiting list. (Guess I already knew that, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.)

Anyway, that's the scoop. Thanks again for your encouraging words! :D
