my good friend's mom died yesterday..

one of my really good friend's mom died yesterday. she was a first grade teacher in our town and was going to a conference in Iowa and they got into a car accident. she was the only one who died and two of them are in critical condition at the hospital. the other one is doing okay at home. i can't believe she is gone. she was a wonderful woman and a good teacher. i feel so bad for my friend... he loved his mom a lot and they were very close. i hope he will be okay....

GALESBURG, ILL. -- Employees in the Galesburg school district are dealing with the loss of a teacher, and their concerns about the recovery of two others following an accident in Iowa.
Fifty-three-year-old Nancy Lewis of Alexis was killed yesterday when her car and a semitrailer collided west of Creston, Iowa.
Her passengers -- two fellow first-grade teachers at Nielson Elementary in Galesburg -- suffered serious injuries. The truck driver was treated for minor injuries.
School superintendent Neil Sappington says the three teachers were very close. They had taught in the same building for 22 years, and were returning from visiting another longtime colleague who had moved to Iowa.
School will not begin for several weeks at Nielson.
---they have changed the story quite a bit since i talked to him last night.... i swore he said there were three passengers but i must be mistaken. and they were at another collegues house. but he called it a conference. i think they were discussing teaching stuff. thank you all for being so kind i am keeping this family in my thoughts and prayers.---

I am so so sorry. As someone who lost her mom almost 4 weeks ago, I can tell you to be there for him and ask him what HE needs...I know people mean well, but don't try to "cheer him up"...no words can take away the pain, but just knowing someone is there if needed will make this just a wee bit easier.
