This morning I was a little ways down the road (a 4 lane state road) when I saw everyone slowing down. There was a dog in the middle of the road. I saw that he had tags, so I pulled into a drive and called him over as he was scared to death--he kept walking one way or another--and semis use this road a lot.
He came right to me. I wanted to take him home, but his name tag just had his name on it, no address  . His vet was close by so I drove by there, but no one was in yet (it was only 6:40). So I took him down to the local police station. He was so excited, he pulled me like crazy as I tried to lead him by the collar. He almost bowled over the policeman. He had a county license but it was last year's--however, they said they could find his home from that.
I hope he got home OK and the owners aren't too ticked if they have to pay a fine for not having this year's license--the dog was in the middle of a major road! He was a cute reddish boxer mix, I think, but what a nice dog--just really, really hyper.

You rock, Robin!!

Follow up with the PD and let us know that the pooch was reunited with with (hopefully) worried family.

That was a great thing to do. His family will be very greatful to you, even if they don't know who actually helped.

That was so nice of you! I'm sure his family will be so happy to see that he got home safely.

You ROCK! I am so glad that you stopped and I am sure that his family is very happy to have him home.

What a kind thing to do. We have a dog that "wonders" and has been brought home by the police and I was VERY greatful to have my baby home! I bet they will be too. ( I should add that I never purposely let Sandi get out of the yard, she can jump the fence and she will go to visit her doggie friends 3 houses down. The time she got brought home she and her friend then left the neighbors yard and were on the road ...going who knows where! :confused3 ) I love her dearly but that day I didn't really like her too much!

The world needs more people like you that are willing to go the extra mile!!! Good Job!!

I called the police, and the dispatcher said an address was written down next to the report that I brought him in, so she said that meant he was taken home. I wish I knew where he lived. I bet they let him out and he "escaped"--my dog does that now sometimes because we have a warped fence post and a gap under the fence--I put boards underneath it until we can fix the post, but he nudges them aside with his nose. Luckily ours only goes into our front yard.
I would just hope someone would do the same if he somehow got around the back of our subdivision and was standing in the middle of the highway.

That is a good dead. If my dog got lost, I would be very thankful to the person who returned him to me.
