She took her 5 year old to adopt a kitten at the humane society (ds and I tagged along) and there was a 1yr old male orange and white kitty who was "free" (there were 3 or 4 others too) she asked to see him in the visiting room even though they thought they wanted a kitten and were told he was free because today was his last chance. He had an upper respiratory infection and if he wasn't adopted today, he would be euthanized tonight.:sad2: He is such a nice cat, super affectionate, her sons "energy" didn't phase him a bit and he was purring away. He will be neutered on Monday, she can take him home on Tuesday. It's not very original, but they are naming him Lucky.:thumbsup2

Aww! 1 yr olds really are still very playful & trainable. They're actually past the teething stage, too. All the upsides of having a kitten, without the downside of litter training, running over your head in the middle of the night, while they are up with endless new energy, chewing on your favorite whatever, etc. :headache:

:thumbsup2

Oh...that is just so wonderful! He really is a Lucky cat!

You made me smile, I am sure your friend will not regret her descison:)

That is wonderful!! I'm so glad your friend chose that kitty instead of a kitten!!

Wow - I am surprised that they told her all of that. It is usually the policy of shelters to not give that information so that people pick a pet that is right for them. He is one lucky cat and it sounds like he is a sweetheart. I hope that more people rescue a pet from a kill shelter. Too many babies are euthanized every day. I think your friend is awesome and I hope that the kitty is okay. Upper respiratory is so common though...if he does have to antibiotics, you may share with her to ask about the Convenia shot. It is a new antibiotic shot that lasts for two weeks and saves you from throwing pills down a cats throat or shooting the liquid down their throats. It makes life easier!

They told her because if she would have come back the next day- he would have been gone. I feel so bad about the other cats who were "free" I hope they got adopted too.:sad1:
