you've gotten some good advice here so far.
you need to continue talking to your guidance counselor, and she should continue to meet with your friend. you should also talk to your friend's mom, or have your mom talk to her.
i used to cut myself. it sucks being the one that needs help and having a friend tell someone your secret, but trust me, one day when she overcomes this, she will be happy somebody tried to get her help. yes your relationship with her will probably suffer, but it's better than having her continue like this.
a similar situation happened but to a much more dangerous extent between a friend and i, regarding suicide attempts. i finally told, she got flown to a hospital to be treated... she hated me for the longest time. but if i had said nothing she literally would have died.
not that this is the same, but she needs to get help for this.
i thought for the longest time i couldn't do it. and everytime i'd stop, i'd keep a tally on how many days i had gone without cutting. i got really mad at myself everytime i'd break, but then i was even more determined to beat my old record and keep going. and my counselor was very supportive, we'd celebrate at each "milestone".
i wish you and your friend all the best in this really difficult situation.
