Hey all, have to say that i loved reading the TR on the boards and kept finding myself checking the boards every fifteen minutes for updates. I swear this place is addicting. (Looking at you Disneyfairy and Akdar)
Anyhoot, here is my cast
Me, Orlando 35 My wife says i am a cross between Cormac Mccarthy and homer Simpson.
My DW Jennifer, (If I tell her age I will be a dead homer simpson)
My DD Alyssa, 12 going on 30 too fast.
And finally my DS 10, who complains every summer he is too short and tries new inventive ways to stretch himself to get on new rides.
Well back in February I started to get the itch. I read somewhere that a certain popular show will become a new attraction at a certain Floridian resort I haven't been to in more than four years. It got the US/IOA section of my brain cooking (You guys have that section too?). So I used the best tactic any man can employ to his wife. I begged
. Money has been tight at times and OK at others, so initially the DW balked at the idea. So I watched my Simpson's and learned a constant regiment of monotonous droning of "Can we got to Universal?" can wear her down enough to either slap me or grant my request. So after a brief 30 minute session of staring at me like a man with three heads and no brains she relented with the slightest of smiles.
So it was on. Somehow I always start with the plane tickets. I know most people start with the hotel but I'm like Bizarro. Anyway, I have a thing for watching TV at high altitudes, so Jetblue is a must. So I bang at the keyboard and get some really good rates, 69 bucks per person each way. I run to the wife with my chest all puffy to make my proud announcement. She looks at me and states coldly, "No Universal hotels or fancy stuff this time."
Oh well that means Kissimee again. No bother though I got a plot simmering in the back of my mind for a HHN weekend just for the two of us this October. So I let the battle die quick. She then ask if I can find a cheap offsite with a kitchen. My chest puffs up again. I tell her then we need to stay for two weeks instead of our usual 7 or 8, knowing full well i already booked the plane ride.
I found the cheapest thing I can muster, a studio 6 for like 40 bucks a night. Trust me my fingers are still crossed and welded together hoping i luck out with this place. The place is supposedly a new location. I don't know if that means refurbished or newly built. I guess I need to wait and see. Keep in my I cut a corner the last trip and found a decent Hojo Suite for a good price and had a blast. The only thing I can think of as I write this is that I should have found a Condo or something... o well. Anyway it does have a stocked kitchen and that makes the DW happy because she really does have a sensitive tummy so some home cooking between the both of us is right up her gloomy alley.
So no activity for the next couple of months. I had all the major stuff tied up with car, hotel, and airfare done so what's left?
Oh yeah! Park tickets. I first find the current deal for the 7 day unlimited, but since we are going for 14 days I figured we hit everything. I have never been to Seaworld so it is definitely on my list and of course I got to throw in the water parks. So what is this a new waterpark? I look for ticket info and find something that piques my interest: The Orlando Flexticket. So back to the DW. I got my sword and shield on but alas there was no dragon. She loved the idea, especially since the price breaks down very nicely with usage.
So through the power and graces of the great darkside of the disboards I find Undercover tourist. I get my tickets in no time and loved the ease of the site. One less thing to worry about. Actually nothing else to worry about except to pack.
But its only April at this point.
So the DW tells me to keep the trip on the QT for now. We have really large extended family and someone always wants to bum a tag-along for the price of free. I do tell the DD who keeps a secret better than most religious orders. She is stoked.
But the boy can't keep a single letter let alone a word in his mouth before blowing it up. So here is the scheme part of my trip. I tell the boy that he has now been accepted to a special camp for Boys that helps with anger management ( he has had a few issues this year, hence the non-reluctance to do this scheme).
I hype the matter up with the help of the rest of the family. I tell him its near his aunt's home in North Carolina and the rest of the troop will be there for the weekend as he travels with his mom to "the camp". I tell him its got a pool and all that but he must write insightful poetry and letters to those he has emotionally hurt this year to make amends. He sulks but since he has been to camp three times before he has no fear and says he looks forward to it but asks why does he have to write in the summer. I tell him it would make ammends
. Ok its the best I can make up at the time. So here we are 13 days till we leave and the DD is losing her mind in anticipation and the boy is sulking about "his stupid therapy camp" thing. I can't wait to tell him at the airport the truth and grab a pic of his face.
Anyway, I hope you like my Pre trip report and I hope you guys read my report once its done when the trip is over.
