My First Time With Sw And Guess What Happened??????????

Okay I have posted the past few days about SW and the whole NON ASSIGNED SEAT THING....well tonight at the 24 hour mark..I go on line to get those REVERED Section A boarding passes. Well I punch in all my info........and it said I HAD TO GO TO THE CHECK IN AT THE AIRPORT. I tried again, same thing. SO I called and she put me on hold and then told me MY NAME WAS RANDOMLY PICKED FOR A SECURITY CHECK (they do this for all flights) and that I could not get the boarding pass on line, but if I got to the airport early enough I COULD POSSIBLY GET "A" THEN. I HUNG UP AND my first thought was "I will never fly SW again". OMG..........I had already had questions about how the seating worked, then my family can't get the section we want 24 hours ahead. We have three kids, blah blah blah. So now....we will have to get there even earlier than planned. We fly out of a very busy airport already too. So I hope this is not a sign of more bad luck to happen on our trip to WDW.

Nope my son is 6 turning 7 Dec. 3rd. UGH I know it will probably all work out...it is just frustrating for me because I have flown all over the US and over seas and the first time I use SW..........it is not going to be easy I feel.

don't worry I fly BWITM all the time (assume thats it) with SWA and have never had a problem if you end up split up as your seating your kids ask the person if they could relocate and when they tell you NO just smile and say OK but you were warned.They'll get right up.

Do a print screen showing the need to check in at the airport.

See the gate agent and quietly explain what happened. You might luck out and get a pixie dust special (RAK) -- preboarding.

We are flying out of BWI.........which is Baltimore Washington International.

My other concern is the whole peanut allergy thing. It is on our record...and although they say they are not serving peanuts on either of our flights.....you still have to worry about what other people bring on the plane...I would hate for my kids to be sitting next to people with nut foods. UGH I can prove this.....they all wear medic alert bracelets

Southwest flying without peanuts??? Since that's their sales pitch (and I've heard of others with nut allergies having to be refunded), maybe you'd better check that again for certain. Also, the plane is not going to be free of peanut dust by any stretch, even if they are only serving the wheat thins or ritz sticks, which has been brought up by others w/ proximity allergies. And, sorry to say, I do bring PB crackers for my DDs when we fly (and lots of people do), b/c I never even think about allergies. Maybe I should switch to the cheese kind...hmmmm. Good luck!

I was told by a SouthWest person, that if you request preboarding, you really don't have to provide them with a reason why. In this case, I think, if you go up to the desk and tell the person (this would be in the boarding area) you have severly allergic children and you need to be next to them, and are requesting preboarding, they will easily hand you over the paper that gives you the right to the preboard line. We had two people on a flight in the preboard line (they appeared to be two healthy 50 or so's..note I said appear, because I have no idea), and the person getting ready to call up the line said to them...this is preboarding, and the gentleman said, yes I know and we need to preboard. They let him on. I felt sort of bad for wondering what they were doing the line, since you really never know a person's reason.
I believe if you are on the list to not get an online boarding, the list is not of SW or any other airline's doing. I thought someone posted that here, when it happened to another person.
Good luck, please don't worry, you won't have any problem getting preboarding with the kids problems.
PS our last flight was cookies one way and pretzels the other. When DH asked for peanuts, he was told there were none on this particular flight. I would be a little nervous to be caught way up high in the air, however, if one of my kids had a serious peanut allergy, since you don't know who else willhave peanuts, or if the flight before you did. Have you flown with no problems before?

I can't fly SW - not offered here. But I will say when DS wanted PB cookies for the plane. I said no someone might have a nut allergy. So I am aware and wish you lots of luck!

It is unfortunate that this had to come up for you the first time you fly Southwest Airlines.Your nervous enough about the 'no seat assignments' and the 'peanut allergies' you certainly don't need to add more worry about getting seats together.
So sorry this has marred your first experience.Hopefully everything will go well at the airport for you and your family.
Southwest really is a great airline to fly.

I always tell them we have peanut allergic kids and South West said "Oh we will make that a non peanut flight" meaning They won't serve them. She said they will also wipe down all the seat trays too after passengers depart the plane before boarding begins. That is part of the no peanut flight. We have flown many times with peanuts on board but we were all right there together and none of them has had a problem. So just letting them know is just extra precaution. I am sure I am freaking out for no reason. This is all new with SW and we are pros at flying...........so hopefully we will love SW. Thanks for all concerned.

I have flown southwest when they announced there was a traveler on board with severe peanut allergies. They let us know there would be no peanuts served and we were to refrain from eating snacks we brought on that might contain peanuts.

I must fly to Orlando the same time the other traveler flies because on another flight they had already distributed peanuts. They made the announcement and rushed around taking all the peanuts up.

I got the impressions they are real sensitive to the issue. Just keep repeating yourself so everybody knows. Have a great trip.

I haven't flown SW, but I have heard that announcment made on flights on other airlines. My MIL and FIL said they announced it for their flight between Detroit and Orlando last Spring too.
They are very serious about it. When someone says they have an allergy, there is no way for the staff to know whether the person will have a mild problem or go into anaphylactic shock in the air. They assume a worst case scenario and make as much effort as they can to avoid it.

Airlines must be serious about peanut allergies. In case of medical emergency the plane might have to come down short of its destination and the allergic person is certainly not going to pay for the added gate costs, traffic control priority queuing, and jet fuel.

I've noticed that when they serve peanuts, they usually serve another snack, too (snack mix packet). When there is a peanut allergy, they probably just eliminate the peanuts.
Good luck with your boarding! I fly SW a lot, and that isn't the norm, but it (security screening) can happen at any time. I had it happen once or twice with ATA.

BTW,
It wasn't SWthat flagged you for extra security it's TSA. SW has no control over that.
