My first SSR experience

We bought here a year ago and stayed for the first time for 11 nights early December and just loved it. It was beautiful and peaceful, and the buses were great, such a pleasant surprise after all the bad reports I had read.

We have a week booked in May, and are really looking forward to returning.

We just return from SSR on Christmas and we really enjoyed the resort. We were located in The Paddock near the lake bridge and beside the bus stop. My only complaint (and it is minor) is I would have like for Artist's Palette to open before 7 AM.

We're also owners at SSR but will be staying there for the first time in April, at the insistence of our kids! We've toured it a couple of times, when we bought and also while showing friends and family, and it is gorgeous. It's only because of circumstances, traveling with others mostly, that we have yet to stay there. We're really looking forward to it. Thanks for the great reviews, everyone!:goodvibes

It is kinda funny, since owning in DVC since 2004 I have never stayed ar SSR, My mom and sister took a trip together last summer but i didnt go.

But so far i have stayed at OKW 4 times, the boardwalk, AKL, and next time i would like to go to the Beach Club, Then wirderness lodge, then bay lake.

But i am leaving tonight to go to WDW and we are staying at SSR and i am excited

Glad you loved it!!! We did too! we were blown away.

We were at SSR again in mid December. Our little ones (7, 6 and 4) insisted that we stay there as our day before Disney Cruise hotel because they love SSR! They cheered when I got off the phone with Member Services that we were staying there again! We loved to take the wonderful walk to Downtown Disney, eat lunch at one of the many restaurants, and hit the Lego and World of Disney stores. We had a very relaxing day!

Those who boo who that they can only get SSR for their upcoming trips are in for an unexpected treat!

 :cheer2:

You guys are making me so excited! We got the developer points when we bought in a couple weeks ago and we are staying in April! (And AGAIN in September) At first my fiance and I were like...oh with two trips in 09 to SSR our first trip "home" to AKV wont be til 2010 but after this thread...... I am SO excited!

People, stop it!!!!
Stop braggin up SSR! We want to keep it exclusive :):goodvibes

And don't forget the Turf Club...
Isn't the Turf Club AWESOME? We went last spring, and I have it on my list for our upcoming April trip. I think it was one of the best meals we've ever had on property! :goodvibes There were 11 of us, and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. My FIL got a prime rib that I honestly believe was 12 oz. AFTER he trimmed the fat! It was huge!

My Dad is a buffet fanatic and he wasn't too excited that we had booked one of our four dinners out at a sit down restaurant (But his plane was delayed and he missed the Boma dinner). BUT even he was impressed with his dinner and with everyone else's dinner. Party of 10 seated on time with good service.

We own at SSR and stayed there for the first time this past April during F&G festival. It was very relaxing and quiet despite the amount of people on property. We also stayed there just three weeks ago and had a fabulous view of DTD!! We bought this resort sight unseen..never took the tour and we really really like it!!! The rooms are comfortable and a great place to come home to! We just ate at the Turf Club on Feb. 9th for the first time and it was really good and very pretty with the sun setting!

Thanks for posting this thread.

Just called ssr and they said they have no plans for the pool to be closed during our stay march 21-28 407-827-1100

We have three home resorts...all of which we love for various reasons, but honestly, SSR feels the most like home to us. We cannot wait for our "couple only" trip planned for Valentine's Day!

Our first home resort is SSR bought sight unseen.... because It took that long starting with OKW to convince DH that DVC would be a good thing. Well He finnally agreed to The Beach Club and by that time they had just sold out so we bought at SSR and were very pleasently suprised. We try to visit WDW twice a year and like to try all the different resorts but still like to go back to SSR at least every third trip or so. That's What I love about DVC you will never be board and each resort has a different feel. SSR is a great Girls only get-a-way both my DBF, DD's, and I love to do a day at the spa, a day at the pool, a resort type vac. This past Aug we bought 2 small add on contracts at VWL (MY true favorite ) and the BCV to take advantage of the 11 month booking window for Dec at VWL and the Flower show at BCV.
Our new thing is Splitting our vacations.... between two resorts
In the Sept We stayed 5 nights at AKL savanna view (loved loved it) and went over to BCV for 3 night to meet up with friends. In Nov we sayed 5 nights in a 2BR at SSR with the whole family over Thanksgiving and then DH and I moved to VWL for the Christmas feel and to be near MK for MVMCP

It is so great to see all of these positive posts about SSR. We just put in an offer at SSR and are waiting on Disney's ROFR. My DH and I have toured the property and like it very much, but touring the property and actually staying there are totally different. It's great to hear that so many people really enjoyed their stay at SSR. I'm so excited and have my fingers crossed that we pass ROFR.

We bought SSR site unseen last year and will be going "home" for the first time in April. I am so glad to read all these positive comments about our home resort! :hippie:

As with previous poster we bought sight unseen (other than picking people up on DME when we were at POR). Every time we stay there it becomes more and more special to our family. It only took one question during our last trip from our DS13 when he asked "do we get to stay here every year?" to know that we made the right decision to buy at SSR.

We are due for our third trip down to our "home" at the end of the month and have 2 more trips scheduled over the next 11 months. We have discussed our desire to experience the other DVC resorts but the more time I've spent at SSR the less important that desire becomes to the point that I question even trying to change a current reservation at all.

Why bother, no sense messing with a great thing!! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

My dad and I have stayed there a total of 7 times for roughly 56 days since we purchased 3 years ago. I guess you can say it has become a permanent second home to us.

In the warm months, we find it a great place to relax and commune with nature. All those lovely walkways and lots of beautiful views. I've also been there enough to learn a few secrets to how the resort runs and various shortcuts. But I think what I love best are all the CMs that work there. The full-timers are some of the nicest people onsite. They see a lot of different faces, since it's such a large resort, but they try to make friends with everyone.

Critics have liked SSR to a retirement community. All I can say is if there was a retirement community half as pretty as SSR near me, I'd be begging to get in.

We just got back Sunday from our 9 day stay at SSR.

SSR is still our favorite resort, hands down. There is no place more relaxing after a hard, busy morning/afternoon/evening in the parks.

As far as bus service, we had fantastic service all 9 days at SSR. Never waited more then 10 minutes, most times it was less then 5 minutes. Our worse bus wait was at the Boardwalk area, we waited over 35 minutes before we gave up and took a taxi. Didn't want to miss our ADR at Chef Mickey's. Our second longest wait was at Contemporary after dinner at the Wave, we waited about 20 minutes for a bus to DHS.

We just returned from our first trip at SSR. It was wonderful. Very quiet and peaceful. We were just steps from the bus stop at the Paddock. Transportation was great... never crowded and always on time. Loved being so close to DTD. We have two small children and the pool was perfect for them. I've noticed the other pools at other resorts are more "grand" but I really liked having a less crowded pool for my little ones. My husband and I are planning our next trip and we can't decide where to stay. We loved SSR but also feel we should give some of the other DVC resorts a try. I will always recommend our home, SSR, to other Disney friends.
