My first solo trip and my first Disney trip

Good idea or not? My boyfriend is willing to go with me, he's been in the past and isn't crazy about it but he's well aware of my current obsession to finally go and has agreed. We wouldn't be going until May of next year and I was planning on taking a different trip in December by myself (my first one also) but lately I've been thinking hey why not Disney? Although I can't wrap my mind around hanging at an amusement park by myself I thought I would check with you guys first to get some good input on it.

Also this is my first post so HI EVERYONE!

Why not? I know people that go to Disney (and other theme parks)by themselves and have a great time. What park are you going to? There is always the benefit of single rider lines!

That's the thing if I go with my boyfriend we are compromising and spending 1 day at a water park for him and two days at whatever parks I would like to go to (Epcot and MK) but if I go by myself I can spend 3 days at whatever parks I want to go to. I'm seriously considering it so I'll be checking this spot on the forum often to help make my decision.

I've done a few solo trips over the years and the best part about them is it's all about YOU! You go where you want, when you want and do what you want! Ride your favorite ride over and over, sleep in or get started early, get your photo taken with your favorite character - the list is endless! And if you get lonely, pick up your cellphone and call a friend or loved one!

Then when you head back in May, you'll be able to share your favorites with your boyfriend, but also make new memories!

travelin' that's an excellent post and reading all of these threads is truly inspiring me. I *love* going to movies by myself and don't mind going to nice sit down dinners by myself either, which is why I've always wanted to travel by myself to see what it's like. Plus I have a hectic schedule and almost never have a day off all to myself so more and more it's sounding like heaven.

The tough part will be convincing my boyfriend only because I don't think he'll understand the desire to try out solo traveling.

I got hooked on Disney by first going solo. I thought I would like to start traveling (not married, no kids) ten years ago when I turned 40. My boss told me about the land/sea package.

My first two were solo; third I took my mom; fourth solo; fifth took three friends; sixth solo; seventh took two friends; now back to solo again.

You won't regret it!

Two things I wished I had known about my first year. How many restaurants there are and how many different modes of transportation.

I am a creature of habit (go out the same place every night at home) and the first year, I think I ended up at Shutters just about every single night because I was at CBR. I had no idea you could go to different resorts and eat and all the cool places at the Parks. I was overwhelmed, I guess and didn't take advantage of it.

Now I venture out a lot. Do you know the first year I took a jar of peanut butter and a spoon for snacking at night - who knew all the yummy wonderful things they had there.

The second was venturing out on the transportation. I didn't know the boats really existed until they bumped me over to the Dolphin from POR for a refurb. What a blast I had doing the loop every night!

Welcome to the DIS! I have never gone solo but I am dying to! Problem is my DH is a Disney nut too and so always wants to go too!

Just think you can go on your own schedule, eat where you want, take breaks where and when you want, ride what attractions (single ride lines rock) and shop til you drop (if that's something you like)! Or you can go commando if you like and have the experience you need to plan the trip with you boyfriend!

Pick up some guide books to get an idea of what you would like to do (I like Passporter and Unofficial) and everyone here is a great source of info!

My advice? Do it! Do it! You'll be cool!

So far I've pretty much only ever gone solo to DLR or WDW. Met up with some DISers in WDW this last trip, and had a blast once I met them. One of the best things about going solo, is you can do what you like. And yes, Single Rider Lines do rock! I've successfully ridden EE 4 times within 20-30 mintes because of the Single Rider Line. I just wish more of the rides had them.

Oh and I know a great way to get your boyfriend on It's a Small World attraction...does he like Shrek or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Time Burton/Johnny Depp version)movies? Then he has to go on this ride...he'll see it in a whole new light from when he was a kid - even if he laughs at it all the way through!

I took my DH on it for our honeymoon cuz he never really got those scenes as he had never been to WDW or DL before or done any research (he leaves the planning to me)!
Now he loves that ride - even if it is just to sing..."Welcome to Duloc" as we go through

Yes, I know how long IaSW is from the time you enter the tunnel to the point of passing all of the goodbye signs at the end.

I've been to WDW a few times with other but just took my first semi-solo trip this year. I planned it so I had solo days before/after meeting up with friends. I had a great time with my friends, but absolutely loved the solo days!

If you comfortable on your own, you'll have a great time. I am an only child and love solo shopping, dining, movie-going at home. I pretty much did the same thing in WDW.

I ate at nice restaurants. I people watched. I had character photos taken and got autographs. I rode some rides 4 times in a row because I was the single rider. There is never a lack of things to explore and try out throughout the parks/resorts. Go enjoy some "me" time!
