I have been reading for a few weeks, but just registered today, because I have a feeling I may have some questions and everyone here seems to have the answers.

We are heading to Ft. Wilderness for the first time in August. I just booked our trip a few weeks ago. We will be there August 2-9. It will be me, my dh, dd (age 7) and ds (age 3)- although my kids will be closer to 8 and 4 when we arrive. This will be our first trip with the kids to Disney. Dh and I were there way back in 1994. We will also be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary while on this trip.

We will be driving from Pittsburgh, PA and are planning on taking 2 days to get there. We have a 27' 5th wheel that we will be bringing along. I don't know how much we will be at the campground, since I know we will want to kids to try and see everything in the Disney theme parks. But, I know staying at the campground has made this vacation must more affordable (vs staying at one of the hotels).

I have to start making our ADR's here at the beginning of February, so I know I will be posting over on that board as well. I keep changing my mind about where to eat. We will have the dining plan for our trip.

Just wanted to introduce myself and say a quick hello.

:welcome::disrocks: You will have fun both here and at WDW. Ask away.

:welcome: to the dis, you will be as addicted to this place as the rest of us in no time. We are from Darlington, about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Small world huh. If you have any questions just ask, there are plenty of people on here who know lots about ftw and disney.

I actually live in Beaver County (Hopewell Township), but I listed Pittsburgh, because I figured that was more recognizable. Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome to the party new fellow Dis'er. party:
Don't be shy. Don't be scared. Don't be offended. We are a fun luvin bunch and once we get to know you, well, we are equal opportunity offenders, but in a fun way. As you read and explore you will learn about Kungaloosh, how to make a Mickey lamp post, hear theories about the peacocks and learn to be an official otter spotter. There is much to learn here and we are all here to help. In no time you will be spending more time here than with your family. It is not uncommon to be cruising the Dis at all hours. :surfweb:

If you are bringing kids your age you have to go Whispering Canyon at WL as it is interactive dinner for kids and good food also. Another is at the Contempory for Mickys Buffet. How about Bomas at AKL, you can walk around and see the Animals. Theres so many choices. Norway at Epcot has a Princess Buffet and also good food.

Welcome to the Dis..and the FW/camping thread. We are a nice bunch..if I do say so myself. ;) Everyone here is incredibly helpful and friendly.
We are going to FW in August also...later in the month though. It's pretty hot in August..REALLY hot, so while you may want to see everything in the parks, take time to enjoy the resort also. It's a good idea to visit the parks early and then return and enjoy the pool and relax during the heat of the day. The good thing about the summer months is that the parks are open later. During August trips, we usually head back to parks around dinner time, it's just a bit less crowded, and you don't have the heat of the sun beating down on you in the evenings. The night time parades and fireworks are great. Don't forget the Electric Water Pagent ...which you can see right from the beach in FW.

We will be arriving at FW on 8/5!:cheer2: Here's hoping for nice weather and small crowds.

I called reservations yesterday and asked about any AAA discounts available to apply to our existing reservation. The CM did a bit of checking on his computer and our total dropped by $110!:dance3:

If you have AAA you should call and ask if you can get a discount.

Welcome!!! You'll LOVE Ft. Wilderness!!!!

Welcome to the best camping board around :)

Don't forget disposable ponchos, disposable sippy cups (if your kids are prone to spilling), bikes, and retractable marshmallow roasters.

I represent that.

WELCOME!!!! You will love it here and you will love the Fort! Ask away, but please don't be offended if we hijack your thread. We don't mean too, eventually we will get back on topic, but it is an inevitability that we can't seem to control!

I would second the idea of Whispering Canyon - went with a large group in Nov 2003, group of 4 who are our neighbors across the street, DW's cousin and her family of 4, plus our family of 5. We had Candy Cane for our server and they placed our large group right behind the check-in desk (for constant supervision I think :lmao: ). We had CM's leaning over the half-wall joking with us most of the meal, keeping the little one's fired up; and at one point Candy Cane made me chase DW around the restaurant on the hobby horses singing Happy Birthday to her at the top of my lungs. One of the most memorable, relaxing:rolleyes1 , sedated:confused: , quiet  meals we have ever enjoyed :rotfl2:
