My first pin code....what a letdown

So since I missed out on free dining, I was so excited to receive a pin code yesterday. This morning I called to have it applied to my current reservation at the WL. Not only can I not use it there, but there is no availability to use it at the Poly. or the Contemporary either! I went from being so excited, to being so disappointed all over again. So for those of you wanting those precious pin codes, it is not all that it is cracked up to be, unless you maybe have a lot of flexibility with resorts or dates, which I can not do.

I have never gotten a pin code. Or free dining, either. I'm unlucky that way. But if I did get one, and it was really good, I would probably move resorts.

I too don't find the pin code emails I receive to be that great either.

I've gotten a couple of these emails in the last year. But since we are not going to Disney more than once a year a pin code deal starting two weeks after we return home from Disney or the month after is of no use to us.

The pins we've received have always been room discounts and although I never really looked closely at the dates they did not appear to be much different deals then the other emails I received announcing to everyone discounted room rates.

Maybe pin codes aren't as important since Disney always seems to have some sort of deal going on anymore ~whether it be room or FD or both and USA guests have to make their choice as to which deal.

We've never gotten a Pin code but have gotten FD. Bounce back is the best way to guarantee FD.

Same here as far as not being able to use those codes. We have taken advantage of FD several times before the kids were school age. Now they are either when school is in session or what is already available to everyone in the general public without having a code (Very sneaky making you think you're getting a special deal). What is really irritating is when you get an email telling you to "book now" for your kids school break, and they even give the exact dates of that break (I did not give Disney this information) but no discount. Then, after now having the information on when you could actually travel, they give you a postcard or email for a different time. Had this happen with DCL too! RRRRRR!!!

I was lucky enough to receive a pin code in early 2015 that even allowed me to use it at POFQ, which NEVER has discounts. I was super happy as it was 25% off. We used it for two rooms the first week in December - it was fabulous! That is the only one I have ever received though.

We typically get several PIN codes per year most of which are for dates we don't go but we did get one last year for the time that we go (early December) which gave us 30% off GF which is one of our top resort picks. We hadn't originally planned to go last year but ended up booking because of that. Hoping we get one this year, but if we don't get one soon, we'll probably just book anyway.

Used to get really good Pin codes years ago, I remember 40% off club level once. I have an AP discount for Independence Day weekend for Poly Villas at 35% off. Find that with deluxe resorts we come out much better with a room only discount than free dining as you are paying rack rate for the room and we always spend less on our food (1TS per day) than if we do Dining plan. Plus you have a 5 day cancellation policy as opposed to 45 days with a package.

We had a great one -40% off- and stayed at Yacht club for our first ever. It was fantastic. Someplace we likely wouldn't have tried, but BC wasn't available when we booked. It just came in the mail.

Sometimes you have to wait to see what opens up later. When I went in Dec I got a military discount at POR and I was all set. My dream resort was WL. When I made my first reservation they said WL is not included but to call later down the road and see if anything has opened up. So I wanted like 6 weeks and Oh WL had military discount. So keep what you have and call down the road and see what comes available.
