We've only ever done stops in Nassau and Castaway Cay plus the Med and have never taken our passports off the ship. Always felt the best place for them is in the onboard safe. However next cruise our ports are Mexico and Grand Cayman. Do you take your passports with you or do you/can you still leave them onboard during excursions?
Thanks :goodvibes

Whenever we've cruised, 2 x Caribbean eastern and western and 1 x European, they've always taken our passports when we've boarded and then we've collected them the morning of disembarkation so we've never had an option.

Taken your passport? Why do they do that?

I'm sure we had to show ours when getting on and off the ship last year in the Med

We have always just left ours in the safe. We went on the western in October last year and didn't need them at all. You just need photo ID and we always have our driving licences.

I don't have a driver's license so my passport IS my photo ID, so yes I take mine off the ship.

Plus I was told if you have an accident off the ship and you end up in hospital and unable to get back to the ship before it leaves port, you'll need your passport to fly to the next port or to fly back to Orlando/Miami or home. :sad2:

Something to do with immigration ??? Really I've no idea all I remember is having to hand them over and getting a receipt for them and having to get up at the crack of dawn on disembarkation day and collecting them before going to one of the bars to clear immigration.

Thanks everyone!
If it's not required we will leave them onboard and take our driving licences plus a copy of our passports. Only using DCL excursions so happy to do that this trip.

Hey sweets - we were told just photo ID to get back on board when we last did Cozumel and that was wayyy back plus same for Antigua and St Lucia... I don't think you'll need to take it, you should just need your photo driving licenses but hey they change the rules a lot and often

I too remember the days of when DCL used to take our passports away for safekeeping and we would have to get into line to pick it up for immigration purposes it was very annoying but this was back in 2003 and 2004... 2005 it had all changed for the better as had immigration!
