My fear about Hurricane Isabel.......

I've been tracking all the storms, and Isabel is tracking north of the track that Fabian did. Fabian appeared, at this point in its life-cycle, to be tracking towards the Bahamas and Florida, but then it turned north and slammed Bermuda. I suspect Isabel may turn north as well.

the difference with Isabel is that there is currently no weather system coming from the north to steer it away from FL

If it does (we are on the 18th wonder) what does DCl do??
Ever have to cancel a whole cruise???

Yes, on its current track, Isabel is head straight towards Castaway Cay, but hurricane tracks are notoriously unpredictable. Hurricane Hugo, back in 1989 appeared to be heading straight towards Savannah, GA. At the last minute it veered north and slammed Charleston, SC instead.

At least it appears your visits to Key West, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel will be undisturbed.

No cruise has ever been cancelled, but sometimes they have "mystery" cruises where the schedule ports of call are cancelled and other ports are substituted.

I am not so much concerned about the cruises themselves or the people that live and work on CC ( I know they would be picked up before it might hit) but about the possible damage to the island itself. As flat as it is, it wouldn't take much past a cat 4 to wipe it out of service for a year.

I'm getting plenty worried, too. We're scheduled to sail on Saturday on the Western. Looks like the storm will either hit our cruise path, or our house while we're away. Either way, I don't have a good feeling about this.

It looks that way to me, too. I can't imagine what will happen--we can't very well head to Bermuda now that Fabian has been there. And by Saturday, the whole Caribbean and Southeast coast will be watching this storm. I guess I'm halfway expecting a call from DCL telling us that the cruise won't happen. To tell the truth, we'd be totally disappointed, but the idea of sitting in my stateroom, watching CNN and hoping that our house is still standing (we live on the SE Fla. coast--about 100 yards from the water) doesn't really thrill me either. Not to mention the hurricane prep we'll be doing to our house/ yard before we can leave here Saturday, just in case.........

We've counted down to this vacation, day by day, since January. Now I'm wishing we had one more week, instead of 2 days.

3 days before my first cruise in 1999, hurricane Floyd took out Castaway Cay. The employees were evaculated to safety prior to the storm getting there. Needless to say, we didn't go to CC. I think it took about 2 month to get the island back open. Instead of CC, DCL took us to Key West. This was prior to Key West being added on the 7 day itinerary. We had a blast.

I hope that the island is not damaged again, but I am sure DCL will try to find an alternate location to stop.

We were on the first cruise back to CC after it was reopened from the damage of hurricane Floyd back in '99. It took a beating and evidence of the clean up was still visable with huge barges and earth moving equipment on the beach area between the ship and the start of the family beach.

It is amazing at how the vegetation has filled in since then. If CC does get slammed it might be less damged because it has so much more vegetation to protect it.....I guess I am just wishful thinking as we are on the 9/25 Wonder cruise and would hate to see CC damaged again.

I'm concerned about the current track too, for CC and for us here in Florida! It's currently a cat. 4 hurricane sustained winds of 140mph. Sometimes when hurricanes are that strong, it doesn't stay that way for a long time though. It COULD lose some of its intensity. You can visit www.nhc.noaa.gov that is the National Hurricane Center for more information. They usually have updates about every 6 hours, at 5 & 11. If it gets closer to us, they will do intermittent advisories about the storm. Lets hope for the best!

11PM advisory is out and Isabel has gotten stronger 145 mph winds now... I'm a little concerned about this one. It's still several days out though.

mmouse37, we were on that same cruise in 1999. As we were boarding the bus to go to the ship, we were happily informed that we would be the first cruise going back to Castaway Cay after the hurricane damage.
